Default Rant about Xenon Depot HID kit

Sup everyone,

About a year and a half or so ago, I purchased a Xenon Depot hid kit for h4 in 5000k with hi/low beam capabilities. Everything was good up until 2 days ago, my bulb blew up on the driver side. To me, that seems grossly premature on a bulb that should "last the lifetime" of my car.

Looking on the xenon depot website, it seems as if replacement bulbs can't even be purchased any longer.

I just want to warn the other frequenter's of this forum to stray away from kits as much as possible after this experience. Bulbs for hid's are definetly not cheap and i'm probably going back to halogen which is no fun, but definetly more reliable than aftermarket hid's I guess.

I have nothing against xenon depot as they were courteous and helpful when i bought the kit and when i emailed them with questions. I guess i just feel a bit disappointed for spending that much money on something with such a short lifespan.

If this doesn't belong on this forum, feel free to move it or delete it as needed. It's just a warning which really shouldn't matter anymore i guess, seeing as how hid kits are illegal to sell.

Night gents.

Anyone with xenon depot kits feel free to chime in

Most times the bulbs should last a long time.
Not a lifetime.
Should be about 4-5 yrs like normal oem ballasts are the same.
like what 20,000 Hrs?
Anyway.
Most times a bad ground wiring or a bad positive battery connection are the culprit.
Times of bad wiring without a fuse relay wiring causes either the ballast to blow or the bulb to blow. Most HID kits now don't have the relay wiring. The Generation one HID kits did. The fuses would blow before the blub or ballast would blow. Fuses would be 25 cents to replace. I know for a fact vendor's offer only 1 yr warranty.

Resolution:
Get another pair of HID bulbs & splice them to the existing ones
(Make sure you check all the wiring and no water is causing the short/blow)
or
sell these and get a new set. Not sure which kit you got from xenon depot.
I stay away from the non-Philips & non-Hella ballasts.
Those odd shaped ones like blk plastic or grey plastic shells look like generic poorly manufactured asian HIDs.
They resemble K2 ones.
Those tend to be 8000K + where color is more important than quality.

Good Luck.
