Default Just stripped all the sound material out of my LS

I just got done stripping the sound deading material out of my LS. It took only about 1 hour with 2 guys. It was cold out so it made the **** brittle and it broke right out. I weighed it all, about 15 lbs, o well not very much buy it was free, and the sound aint that much different unless you are doing 80 on the highway. Other than that I just crank up the stereo. Just thought Id share.

I don't think its worth it. Its only 15 lbs! Maybe if it was like 100 lbs it would be. Im thinking of adding sound deadening to my Teg, I hate road noise.

Hey guys, you can use an air chisel set on low and I got my sound deadening out in my heated garage in 45 minutes. As soon as the vibration hits it it chips right out and if yu are careful you can do minimal scratching of the floor. Wipe up the remaining glue left behind with laquor thinner and you are done.

Me too. I really hate the road noise especially on a long drive. My wife hates riding in my GSR.

I gotta chime in on this too.

When I bought my Civic, I was a audio freak. Loved sound, so I piled about 40lbs of sound deading material in my car, and eliminated all rattles and creaks.

Let's just say that at 100mph, my car is quieter than my buddy's at 65. And we have the exact same car, motor, tires and exhaust.

I love it, and would never remove 15lbs of material for my sanity.

Plus you can talk to your chick while driving and you don't have to yell at her!

Sound deadening material is really easy to remove believe it or not. If you live in a rather chilly environment, leave you car with the carpet out and the door opened for ~ a few hours at night (below freezing is best), and let the material harden, then all you have to do it use a little pressure (hammer, chisel, whatever) and it just breaks off.

Granted, you must have a secure environment. Don't want to have the car stolen because of you're trying to lose a few pounds. Also, dry ice works well.

Accumat by scoche. It's not asphalt based, it's rubber. Double side sticky tape instead of heating it up like dynamat.

I did every panel in the car including the trunk. Not just strips, but full sheets of the stuff.

So quiet..............

OT-B18c-EJ1-where did you pick that stuff up from? Also, did you lay it down on the metal panels or on the back of the plastic panels? Thanks in advance for any info

I stripped out ALL of my tar in my car and it was not 15lbs. It took me almost 3 days of sweat and blood labor. Not to mention getting it all out of the front part of the car you have to duck your head up in there and have a minimum amount of space to hit the tar at an angle. My guess is about 35lbs, that bag was pretty damn heavy. I thought I did a pretty clean job, looks like it was never there in the first place, I'll post a pic of my interior later on.

hey gsr guy im a weight freak dude and im trying to pull that sound deadening stuff out could u tell me exactly where its all located at thanks alot
In the back, it is underneath where the spare tire is at. Left, right and above the spare tire location. Also it is underneath the rear seats. The tar in the complete rear may weigh around 15lbs-20. Now for the front. You have to take out your front seats, and the interior carpet (I think you have to take out the rear quarters in order to take out the interior rug since the quarters over lap it by the door jams. The tar in the front is under your seats, also under the floor mats and reaches under the pedal assembly. It also overlaps the underneath the dash from driver-passenger. The rear is the easiest, you can get away with it in an hours work. The front is a pain and if youre in there chiseling long enough youre back will ache.

Im guessing removing the sound deadening on the fire wall would make the bigest diference noise wise inside the car. Our enginse are extremley loud at higher rpm's.

Hmmmm, I think mine weighted in at another 20-25 pounds... but I used dynomat from the front doors back. The doors such much more solid (more lexus like). Less vibration... not THAT big a difference from stock. Perhaps a nice foam pad under it all would help TONS.
