Default thinking of buying a prelude some info needed

hello all hope you can help me , Im thinking of buying a 1998+ prelude vtec but i have a few issues , i want a manual but here in the uk the manual ones are pretty high miles for the money so im thinking about the auto/tiptronic one but i dont know what they are like any one have some info on them , allso ive been offered a type s but he wants a fair bit more money than a normal vti is there that much notiable diffrence between the two any other info would be great cheers .

The Auto/tip tranny is very slow.... so if your looking for speed and acceleration, manual all the way

Don't get the auto. The trannies are known to have problems in the long run.

my mate had a race with the tiptronic one and it flew cause over here we have the manual/auto/tiptronic so is the tiptronic alot slower than the manual ?

yes, its slower, if you can avoid the auto/tiptronic, do so. i drove a 2000 tiptronic and 2000 manual each when i was looking to buy, the manual has better response and control, there's a little lag in the tiptronic shifting... plus the tiptronic was not nearly as enjoyable to drive.

Depending on how much more the guy wants for the type S, i would look into that.
It has higher compresion pistons, diff cams and some other upgrades too.
All of which result in a 20hp gain over the base prelude

higher compression,same cams i think , bigger throttle bodie port and polished head i can get a standard vtec for about 4-4.5k and he want 5.5k for his with 90k on the clock others with 70-80k on the clock grrrr dilema
