GSR sunroof plug?
Ohh I see.. Maybe weld a peice of steel in place of you sunroof (Like rust removal) That doesn't seem farfetched. Or.. send me the keys for your GSR and I'll send you my RS
There's a CF sunroof plug that's either out now or coming out soon for the DC2. You could buy that to plug the hole, then have a shop paint your whole roof again to match the car and smooth out the cresces/lines where the plug sits. Thus after it being painted you'll have a CF top and it'll look OEM with no suspection of it being aftermarket.
You could then buy the interior roof skin from an ITR or RS and replace your own with that.

Just advice: Removing the internals WILL cut down on the weight, but replacing it with sheet metal with compromise the strength of the roof. Secondly, sheet metal will never fully commit to the slight curve of the roof, so lots of filler would have to be used, and as filler goes (especially in texas) will begin to crack as it expands and contracts diffrently than the metal, therefore ruinning your paint job. IF you could find a stock roof, that would be better, but again, you'd have to cut yours, compromising it and causing filler to be used, causing cracks. Although you dont want any type of hole, replacing it with a manual pop up sunroof would cut down on weight and not compromise the strength and risk the cracks in your paint. But, to each his own.
As for the sunroof plug, it will seal it, but inorder to do so some rubber must be above the metal. So inorder to cover that, you'd use filler (which will never look right, b/c you'll have to have AT LEAST 1/4-1/2 inch thick to make it look "right"), and as I said earlier, that will crack-- but much faster as the rubber will expand and contract diffrently too.

I had a friend re-skin his roof....no problems at all. MB makes a fiberglass unit and some guys on here make CF plugs. The CF are a little pricey, but cheaper than a skin, labor and paint.
FYI: We just finished our carbon fiber sunroof plug kit for the 94-01. All prepreg (dry) carbon fiber, follows body line and glossy both sides + complete mounting hardware and instructions. The kit is less than 2 lbs installed. Arturbo bought the first one. We also have one for the DA.
I almost forgot... They are UV clear coated on the top side so it stays nice for years. Kit is waterproof but you loose all sunroof functionality. Mostly a race-street part meant to reduce max weight. In case your wondering the glass doesn't weigh that much so we replaced the whole assembly. Most of the weight is in the track system and for the money there really is no point in just dropping 5 or 6 lbs.
No expensive body work and paint required!

If I was really into getting rid of my sun roof that bad I would chop the roof off of a wrecked car and weld it onto mine. But those roof plugs probably aren't a bad idea.

Can they be filled, smoothed and painted over to look like a sun roof was never there without too much hassle?

Actually they already have clear coat paint so you can paint them easily with not much prep to match the car color. The seal is about 1/16" wide and is flush. The curve of the roof is already perfect because we include a bracket locating tool.
Here is a picture of an almost complete installation. The carbon panel has been bolted in and is in the sealing stage. Once the silicone (included in the kit) cures the tape will be removed leaving a completely sealed panel. THis gives you a pretty good idea. I'm waiting for Art to send me the finished pic.

I'm sure its done now. I will post pics as soon as I can get Art to send me one. Of course not everyone has Tony at Norwoods to help install things but anyone should get the same results with our kit. I'll IM Art and see about a pic of his car.
