wouldn't the b18a1 swap be the cheapest, being that there easily found? a good amount of hp and some good torque numbers ( not as good as the gsrs)

wtf?.. that not cheap... the cheapest swap would have to be the ZC or d16z6... d16z6. great for alittle turbo set up.. or u could go with more displacement and go DOHC zc.. non vtec but still great motor

I'd say B16A\B17A, but for a reality based perspective, "how fast you go is measured in Cubic Dollars".

He said cheap mother ******* lol

2500 for a b18b that needs a dick load of work to go in is not worth the 140hp

Im only 18 so I knew I didnt wanna go buts *** wild for speed, so I opted for a Sohc zc, 118hp. Uses everything stock (mounts, harness, axles, ecu, tranny EVERYTHING) Got it for $450

Added-
Intake (DIY) - $35
Header - $225
2.25" Exhaust - $290

Now with just that for a kid my age new to driving, this car ******* hauled ***, I was beating turbo talons/lasers, mustangs no problem all motor with maybe 140 horses and less than $1000 spent

But I hated losing the odd race to the S2k and the Wrx I raced. So I bought a zex dry nitrous kit. Spray a 65 shot, boost me up to over 200hp in a ******* go cart.

The power was ******* aswesome and I love the car. Ive spent under $1500 on a new motor swap and have 200 hp for 1/2 the price of a b series motor that thieves love to take anyways.

I am in the process now of building the block to hold a 125 shot and the head I bought is already assembled. Tranny work and some suspension and this is gonna be the daily driven d that could.

Seriously though, stick with a d series swap and spray on it or budget boost it unless you have a grip of cash. Sohc/Dohc Zc would be my choice

Thats my story and Im sticking to it, B series guys dont take it offensively, the motors are great but definetely not for one on a budget

Well if you wondering around a local pick and pull yard you can get everything you need for a LS swap for under $200 (yes two-hundred). Put a b16 head on it for less than $500, and DAMN, knocked it up another notch.

See thats where your lying

Absolutely no place is going to even let you touch an complete engine for $200, let alone tranny, axles, ecu, wiring and misc ****. And will that be everything you need to fit it into a crx? NO

You need custom mounts, shift linage etc etc etc

Dont have to lie to kick it

how much are you looking to spend... and how much downtime are you looking at that you prefer....

this are the questions you need to ask your self before buying your swap... o dont forget the price of labor...

I've founda couple complete b18a's at the two pick n pulls here in san jose. Didn't pick them up though because I already have one. OH yea I think the price on longblocks is 300. So I'd probably say in total about 350-400 for everything needed.

Budget=d series

Go with a zc sohc, zc dohc, d16z6, or a d16y8. These swaps are pretty cheap and have good potential for a quick street engine.

For all out power go with either a b/h/k series engine.

There's a pick and pull junkyard where I live where any engine in the junkyard is 150. No ifs and or buts and they pull it for you but axles get cut and anything else holding it in. You might wanna pull the harness off yourself since they won't and just cut it but hell 150 for a LS is good for me. You just get the long block and no tranny and most of the imports get the engines left in since up in northern WI mostly everyone is domestic crazy. Thats fine with me.
I'd say for the best bang for your buck is a JDM D15b vtec and matters where you live if you don't have to pay for shipping cost around 300 +/-. DOHC's are getting old and I hated mine in my CRX.

I was just there today, and yesterday, and a few days before that... a long block w/all supported systems (wiring, ecu, etc) is $199, if you haggle. The tranny was $100, so yes Im sorry, I raise my LS price from $200 to $300...my deepest sympathy to you all.

Rich

PS. Manager's Weekly Specials are always good too, longblocks for $89.99, woo!
