Default 5th Gear Grinding

Goddamn, everytime I turn my back there seems to be another problem with my car, and this one is strange....Ok, during normal acceleration, or anything under 4.5K, the tranny goes from 4th to 5th fine, smooth as a babies ****. As soon as you exceed this RPM (4.5 to redline in 4th) it will grind going into 5th. Don't tell me i've already got to throw a set of synchros in this tranny, but I guess it's a good excuse to throw an Accord 5th gear in there while i'm at it....

Any ideas?

Yup, typical of our transmissions. Lots of cars out there with the same problem. Sometimes changing the tranny fluid helps.

I was under the impression that us prelude guys can not replace the 5th gear with an acoord one, I remember reading about someone that tried but it didn't fit.

i read somewhere that all 94 or 95 and up 4th gen preludes have grinding in 5th gear at high rpms. the article said its just a mismanufacturing. sucks for us.

So you guys recommend the GM syncromesh fluid? Also, I have the shift fork from my 97 F22, as I saw in BrokeLudes thread, so i'll try changing that out and getting something else besides HMTF....Also, this is an LSD tranny, and I dunno how it will respond to these different fluids?

Just did about 3K miles ago. I ran regular 10W30 in it for about 200 miles till I could get out to Honda and pick up some HMTF. the problem just started about 100 miles ago...

yeah i had this too but dropped some syncromesh in and the shifting is a lot easier and the grinding is gone for now-- it kinda sucks I think I have heard about all 4th gen manual trannies have this issue-- how about this though u could replace the syncros and rebuild the tranny for around 500 bucks some dude on ebay is selling used jdm trnnies for 1000 bucks the lsd for 1300 ... and u could spend that much for a used jdm tranny that could still have the same problems as the one u have now or pay someone to rebuild it and know that the problem is fixed
