Do you love your EF/ED? Kind of long/rant.
I was just driving my daily beater to Taco Bell to get some grub...it's raining and gross outside but I just couldn't help but think how much I love EF's/ED's. All of them. Even though the interior sometimes squeaks/rattles, even though it's noisey compared to a new car, I just can't help it. I'm in love.
They just have so much character, something I think the 92+ Hondas [and newer cars in general] somewhat lack.
Honda really had somebody good in the design studio between ~87-91. NSX, Accord, Integra, Civic, CRX....all awesome inside and out.
I'm the kind of person that is never going to buy a brand new car, even though I can (will be able to) afford it. All my friends drive brand new cars, think they're all big and bad...but I just can't understand that. There's no love. It's like a rich kid who runs into his trust fund; there's no appreciation or respect in it.
So far I've owned four EF's.... '90 Civic DX, a MINT '91 Civic Si (kicking myself for selling it), and currently I have a '91 Civic DX sedan and a '90 Civic LX, also a sedan. I just love everything about the EF. It's hard to explain...maybe some of you guys understand where I'm coming from.
Are you driving your EF because you love it, or because it's the only Honda you can afford? There will not be any moment in my future that there won't be at least one EF in my garage.
EF LOVE!

I can afford new and never wanted new and like i said before the GSR is my daily driver but it cant top a 4th gen.
So I know what you are talking about, in my mind they are the best cars ever built.

I love my crx even even though sometimes I just feel like giving up on it and not put any more money into it. My dad is really a Ford guy and he always tries to talk me out of it but I just cant let go of it. I love it to much. And my girlfriend is always gving me **** that I love it more than her blah blah blah. EF's for life!

i know what you mean Jonathan. in my opinion my CRX is one of those "special" cars, that stand apart from the stereotypes of the make. it has a place in automotive history and i value it for it's sporty beginnings and philosophy.
In a lot of ways i think of a ED chassis to be very similar to a Zcar, a car with a character.
and just as yourself, i cannot think of buying a new car, as a replacement or as a daily driver, when i can get the same amenities from a well kept ED or an accord of that era as i can get the need for tweaking a car.

ef's def have the most character. the only honda ill drive is an ef or a 1st gen rex. too many people have 5th gens and up and its gets old after a while. funniest thing is i was driving today and some random like 60 year old guy yelled over to me and said ''i have an 85' crx'',and i said thats cool then he complimented my car and said its was very nice. so that made my day and i then it was great to know that i prob have one of the last rust free mint crxs in my area. efs
Yeah I love my 1990 Blk Si EF with 184,xxx miles. Its my project STS car, but I love driving it around doing things and what not. Great car.

Yeah.. they are a drug, I keep buying them.
I made the mistake of selling my 91 STD workhorse about 6 months ago
315,000 original miles on the original clutch and never a single problem.
I confessed my crimes and was ordered to say 10 hail Marys and buy a 91 rt4wd wagon.

Wagovans freakin rock!
There aren't very many in Texas though. As a matter of fact, I've NEVER seen a 4WD version in person. I see a blue DX every now and then, but that's about it. =/
I'm still amazed at how many 4WD Wagovans and EF Hondas I saw up in the northwest. Everybody has one; even those who aren't 'into' them. Just random old women and crap. It's insane.

Ok, first off i LOVE these threads about people going on and on about how much they love their cars.
Out here in New Mexico almost everyone is into mustangs and domestic power. I got my CRX over a year ago, and have gone through soo SOO much **** just to keep it. First after i bought it i thought i lost the title because i got kicked out of my old place. So i had to go through all this **** trying to get another title. Then after spending $500 on a PI and alot of other things trying to get the title..i found it folded away in my Tool (the band) collectors DVD set. I was soo happy. Soon after then the clutch needed relacement; $700 because i was afrade to do it.
Then on one of those days i decided to do a nice deed and drive a guy home the timing belt broke and left me stranded a few miles from home. Another $350 fixed that, once again i was too worried about messing up my baby to do it myself.
And THEN after a few months it overheated for a few seconds. And 2 days later died on me on the way to work. That was almost 5 months ago, and my baby is still sitting in my front yard waiting for my engine
( https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=944924 ) thats what the status of my engine is
.
I HATE hearing from people daily "hey you should just sell your CRX and buy a ford or something, they are soo much better" It makes me sad that someone would just give up on the car they love and get something else. I am not going to give up on my CRX under almost any condition. Its gonna live as long as i do.
Either way YAY for honda love

ive had two ef's and my latest one was t-boned but still drivable, and guess what?? i still drive the ****. every damn day. cant open the passenger door at all or roll the window down more than 6 inches... but i cant part with it until i find another good ef to scoop up. and frankly it doesnt bother me to cruise it around like that either. i love that damn car and ill prolly love the next one. as to buying a new car.. i once had the itch but then i thought about it. nahhh not for me no way. if i ever did, the new car would be my car i would drive back and forth to work and my ef would be my cruiser lol for sure.
I feel you bro. I was just thinkin the other day about how much I like my new CRX. It's small/light/compact/easy to work on/maintain/plenty of online support/cheap aftermarket parts (vs BMW) and fast. To me, it's the perfect daily driver except for the fact that it's more or less a 2 seater but I rarely carry more than 1 passenger (if that) anyway.
I'm on my 2nd crx, and its my 2nd car total. I still own both and was gonna sell my first one but have decided to keep it and restore the body (rust). I was gonna sell it after that but I don't think I'll be able too. Plus with the seemingly growing rarity of these and ample storage space available to me it seems like if I do sell it I will regret it.

I totally see where you are coming from. I will go to the grave with at least one EF title in my name. Having a line under your username read what mine does pretty much says it all. My good friend who is about 8yrs. older then me, and his wife do not understand my obsession at all. They both drive Audi's for daily drivers, plus they have a myrid of other vehicles. They both keep on me about getting something new with more power, but I just love my EFs. She actually loves CRXes, including mine for some reason, but she despises my hatch. Mabey it is the spray bomb cammo paint, but she just says the body is just visually unappealing. I've showed her pics of some of the best looking EF hatches around, including my old Suzuka Blue SiR conv. 90 DX, she just does not like them, oh well. I do.
Besides them most of my other friends have non-EFs and they don't get it either, they are all why don't you get an EG or a 3g Teg? I love the grassroots lack of refinement, and generally cheap construction. The ones that have had EF's though it seems to infect their blood stream and cause a constant chemical dependency for an EF. My one friend has a Hatch, a CRX, and a Sedan, another friend has 3hatches, a CRX, and a 1g CRX. It's just ridiculous it's like we can't just have one.
I went through a dark period of my life last year. I sold my Suzuka Blue Beast, and I built a 4g63t powered Colt, had lots of problems, just didn't like it even though being the fastest car I've ever owned. I sold it and I just wanted something stock that I wouldn't mod, so I bought a Stock 95 Geo Prism/Toyota Corolla, I hate the fact that it is a Geo can you tell? It was the right deal for a good car, so I got it. Well I was just going keep it stock and drive it well, It almost worked until this spring when I started ridding in my friends EFs and my crx was still tore apart. So I ended up buying my now cammo, Z6 powered, 88 DX Hatch, . Now I'm back in the same boat, spending way too much cash on both cars now.
I wouldn't have it any other way, I just wish I never got rid of my Suzuka Blue Unicorn. Untill I can afford an M3 then an EF will be my daily, but even then I will still have an EF or two for the weekends.

I love my '89 STD as a beater. Probably the best $1000 I've ever spent. 43mpg, cheap insurance, and extremely slow. It made a great winter car. I never got stuck in the snow.
I also had an '89 CRX Si, which was a really cool car.
But my heart is with the 5th Gens. I love my GSR powered '92 Si.

If I ever found a mint condition EF for dirt cheap I would get one. But any sign of rust and I wouldn't ever touch one again with a 10 ft pole.
yeah... ef's is the best..i mean all the other gens are cool too.. but ef is just my favorite.
it's like everybody is telling me to buy a newer car...but i m like nah....
the ef just gots style even tho is old school...
i have always wanted a crx ef body...when i was like 15... i told my dad just give me liek 3k for a ef...but never gotta chance ..but i end up getting civic ef instead..
now that i m 19...all my old friends from middle/high school all gots EFs, damn...
hope to get a 90-93 nsx soon tho.. but ef will be forever and ever... may be when i have grandchildren...they can have a chance to see my hot rod...the EFs family

I really like my 4th Gen hatches. My street car was stolen Monday (recovered the same day) and I was really sad about that.....I have put many hours and lots of love into my car and I will probably keep it forever.
I have had big expensive cars and I could afford one now, but I just don't see the need. I also don't really like how most of the newer cars drive....they feel very disconnected from the road. I like how my hatch "feels" the road and tells me exactly what is going on down there.
