:(( Gutted ....4 degrees Intake Cam retard and.....
Hi guys,
I'm speechless my friend and tuner JDM97r who has just completed his rebuild including skunk 2 stage 2 cam's went for a dyno tune......
Everything was going smoothly until when the tuner started to retard the intake cam throught the cam gears....they arrived till 4 degrees to extract full potential when all of a sudden disaster struck, eratic idling etc......
Thy did a comp test and found that one of the cylinders was very low ......
What do you think guys before he starts to strip his engine down?
Sometimes life isn't fair we tried to do everything right and still........

I dont think you can blame the tuner for something like this unless the tuner did the install and didnt check valve to piston clearances.
I hate to say it but I think this is all part of the game. I wish I could blame my builder for an incorrectly torqued rod bolt but I cant.
Pull the head, check the valves and pistons, rebuild. This isnt a huge problem but more of pain in the ***. Could have been a lot worse.

Hi,
i was so down for my friend that i mixed things up.......they advanced the intake cam by 4 degrees not retard.
It seems that its one of the exhaust valves that got damaged cause we cannot hear the engine doing strange noises or anything........
wish us luck guys !!

Rgds,
I was thinking that was wrong - it's extremely rare to retard the intake cam for more power.
Hopefully the damage is not too bad
BPR - who has had nightmares about this sort of thing...

Check the valve guides because a bending valve takes them out and some times cracks the head...
If you read up on high lift cams you must use clay to know where the boundaries are on cam degree..... + - 4' is a bunch on high lift and high compression engines..
