My car is a 1998 Honda Accord EX.
I was driving on the road when suddenly the car stopped, the engine went off and all the indicators lights on the instrument panel came on. I had to take out the key and then started the engine again. The car runs pretty well before . Has anybody met such a problem? Is it serious?
I checked the internet and found several articles saying that the ignition in many 1997-2000 Honda models including Prelude, Odyssey, Accord, Civic, and AcuraTL has problem. And in 2002, many Honda cars have been recalled because of the ignition problem.
It really terrifies me, what if I was driving on freeway, and a lot of cars are out there, I might have caused a serious car accident.
Could you guys tell me what parts I should check except the ignition?

As there is a recall for certain VIN numbers for those years. Call a honda dealer and give them you VIN # and ask if there are any open recalls. If it is one of the recalled units they will replace it for free.

 

Did you bump your key and turn it off accidentally?

I have a lanyard on my keychain and once it got stuck on my seat lever and I bumped it with my leg...bumping it turned the key and the car turned off while I was on the freeway! I just turned it back on and kept on going though...

Just a thought...

 

I called a honda dealer, and she said she would chang the ignition for me if it's the problem of ignition. and if I haven't done the recall before, she could do it without charge.

Try resetting your ecu. I was cruising in my buddies EF while he was out of town and this same thing kept happening. After resetting the ecu, she ran fine.
