Default Slight "crunch" when quick shifting at redline from 2-3 gear

Well thats basically it. When I shift quickly at or near redline from 2nd to 3rd gear there's a slight mechanical crunch. Nothing too horrible, but its not a snick snick. What does this mean? Are my synchros wearing out for 3rd gear? Would replacing the transmission fluid help this situation?

I'm asking, b/c in two weeks I'm going to a track event at Roebling Road in GA and will be getting probably close to 100 miles in on the track, so I want to know whats up with my tranny.

Any advice? Oh, and the car's a '92 GS-R with 230,000 miles.

Mine used to do that when the car was brand new but stopped now.

make sure you actually have the clutch depressed when you are shifting. the 2-3 shift takes a bit longer than a 1-2 or 3-4.

Ya, your synchros are probably wearing out. That's awesome that you've gotten 230,000 miles out of the tranny though. To help out the situation you can try switching your tranny fluid to GM Synchromesh. Do a search on synchromesh and you'll find lots of other topics where people have used the product. Many people swear by it and it could help keep your wearing synchro from crapping out on you during the event. Good luck

Its your synchros! I had the same problem going from 2-3 had a slight grind. I used synchromesh and after about 500 miles the grind went away. Definitly try the synchromesh before you repair the synchro. Its only temporarly though.

Redline tranny fluid is also good. I have use Redline and the GM syncromesh and I actually prefer Redline. It's a bit cheaper too...
