Default B16 pistons in GSR...do i need to tune?

I searched and found lil information on this...at most its vague. I would think if theres higher compression one would need a tune to improve HP and drivability. Do the B16 pistons cause the motor to run leaner than usually? btw i use 91 octane since im in SF..... Well anyhows I was think about a VAFC 1 cause its cheaper, but honestly the VAFC2 seems kinda sick with tis 2 map settings and smaller increments, not mention the cool looking lights hahaha...Thx in advance for the help....much appreciated

Don't use a VAFC to tune your car, and the SLIGHT compression bump will not REQUIRE you to re-tune, but it may help if you do.

the car runs well but sometimes they are small bogs when I hit the gas.....I was gonna richen up the fuel a lil with a FPR first but found out my friend had a VAFC....O well we ll see if this works....I already tried a new fuel filter in hopes that the bogs would go away....

people say to use vafc and many others say no....I bought it for 140 so I said y not...Im gonna try to install this weekend and see if I can get some dyno time. The throttle is choppy so Im wondering if im a lil lean in the lower gears...any advice

a little tuning wont hurt it, so you might as well.

people! what are you talking about, a "little bump in compression"

b16 pistons make almost 11.3:1!..

thats a lot higher than the stock gsr 10:1 ...with GOOD tuning you just might squezze by on pump gas(93 at that)

if you get ITR pistons,,then massive tuning isn't needed..it's just 10.8:1..i got my FPR turned up a little till i go to the dyno..plugs are looking good
(i got itr pistons in my gsr)

here's a pretty acurrate compression calcualator:http://www.c-speedracing.com/h...c.php

thats wat i thought was going on....we only have 91 in SF, so Im betting theres pinging at times...but when I backed off the timing the car ran too shitting....I can barely hear ping most times. I got the VAFC and now Im trying to get a FPR

darrinbrewer: It's good to know that there are other ppl out there that know their stuff.
davejj40:which B16A pistons are you putting in??? PR3 or P30? Like darrinbrewer said the P30's will put you a smidge over 11:1, and with 91 octane gas you might want to adjust the timing to compensate for the lack of 100 octane gas. PR3's might be a better choice if you want the car to run like a stock motor. If you are changing camshafts, then i say get the P30's as 11.3:1 compression is good for race cams that tend to have high overlap, which reduces dynamic compression at high revvs.

I have no idea what pistons they are...Im guessing P30's....The timing issues are apprent becuase of slight pinging at 16 degrees, so would a tune also compensate for this bogging, by adding more fuel?

hey i would go with ctr pistons and Toda spec c cams, and a few other things. but when u put these pistons in tune with hondata, and 440cc injectors. may sound big but it gives u more room to tune correctly.
