Default EK Type-R headlight question

Really I guess the main question is:

Are the headlights from a 96-98 Civic the same as the 99-00 headlights?

Just wanted to know if the Civic Type-R headlights are any different for the 2 different versions of the 6th gen hatches?

96-98 headlights are different than 99-00. JDM headlights are the same as USDM respectivly, other than apperance wise.

So do you know the difference between the look of the 2 different Type-R headlights? I know what the 99-00 Type-R's look like in person and really like them, but I like the front end of the 96-98 a whole lot better.

Was hopping the lights were the same for this reason.

Why do you like the front end on the 96-98 more? The 99-00 is much better looking, I mean, instead of just on big "vent" you get the middle one and two nice looking small side vents.

Can you use the 99+ headlights and fenders and then just put the 96-98 bumper and lip on. Do the 99 lighst fit the 96 bumper?

It is just something about the way the Type-R lip makes the front end look for the 96-98. The one for the 99-00 is just like the one for the Si though. Very plain looking to me with no body lines etc...

The whole front end of a 99-00(hood, fenders, lights, bumper and grill) is different from that of the 96-98 and none of the parts are interchangable apart from a whole. As for the USDM lights being different from the JDM Type-R, the only noticable difference is the black housing that I am aware of.

Sorry spoonEK I meant to say how much different do the 96-98 Type-R lights look from the 99-00 Type-R lights. Black chrome for both or do they differ in any way.

Not the US ones.

Can you answer this ek9hatch? All I know is that they differ in the same way as the USDM 99-00 vs. 96-98 in shape, and they have a black housing. I didn't know about the grey tint, is there any other diffs?

Well, I wouldn't exactly call the housings black on the CTR headlights..more like smoked lenses. It looks awesome! The 96-98 JDM Headlights and the 99-00 differ in that they are shaped differently, just like the USDM ones are shaped differently. They both (the JDM ones) feature the smoked lenses. Right now i'm debating on whether to keep my original 97 front or go for a 99-00 conversion...what do you guys think? I really like the look of the R lip on the 96-98 like someone mentioned earlier, but i also like the 99-00 Headlights a lot better!

I am with you on the conversion, I have been wanting to do one for a while. I don't know about the smoke lense but true Type-R headlight do have a black housing instead of a chrome one.

Heres what a white 2000 with JDM and working city light.
Also note that the outer housing is plastic.

i'm doin that conversion...my friend's say no one will notice, but i guess i'm doin it for my personal preference...just debating whether i want to change my honda silver color to the S2000 darker shade of silver. but the you gotta do doorjams etc. don't have the time or $$$ for that! but i personally like the 99-00 front end better...more sporty in a way.

and can i fit 'teg mirrors on my EK to look like that too? those are nicer than my "teardrop" lookin mirrors i have from the factory! (plus they fold)

The two headlights differs not only in shape but also the turn signal layout. It's hard to explain but compare them side by side and it will be more than obvious.

jdm lights does not have a reflector directly in front of the bulbs & they're smoked, usdm ones do & they're plain chrome.

those are not Integra mirrors. Intergra mirrors will not fit on civics as the portion that mounts against the door is different. The mirrors pictured are JDM mirrors. Pretty much every country outside of north america has that style of mirrors. They are much cheaper overseas .

and henry, would you ummm......happen to know where i can locate a set of these mirrors that our country does not have on our civics? i thought 'teg mirrors looked like they'd fit, or even EG mirrors, but if you say there's a different layout, i'll believe ya!

on the EKs..USDM and JDM are plastic
on the EGs..USDM lights are glass and JDM ones are plastic....you can't tell until you knock on it and it sounds like glass...they look basically the same minus the nipples

Plastic, dude!
Glass weighs too much and plastic is more durable.

You guys know that you can do your own city light with USDM headlights right?
