Did you install the parts yourself? Make sure the spark plugs are gapped to correct specs. Some spark plugs aren't always set at the factory. Maybe something went wrong with the distributor while installing the new rotor. Check the distributor and the cap.

check to make sure the 2nd and 3rd wire are in the correct spot. one is slightly longer than the other. i had these 2 mixed up and my car wouldnt start either. the length of those 2 wires matters. they are about one inch difference in length.

You know 1 is closest to the timing belt. Is that wire in the right spot? Did you set your firing order the right way? Our engines do turn counter clockwise. Make sure the rotor is screwed down. Also make sure you didn't throw it on backwards. I have seen some rotors where it is possible to set them 180 off(must be some sort of defect)

rotors should be keyed in. the plug wires dont matter the spot they're in on the distributor... as long as you have the correct order (1-3-4-2 go clockwise if looking at the distributor cap.)

other than that, check all the connections again.

This isn't a chevy we are talking about here. If you are at TDC that rotor is pointing to where number one is. Tell me how it doesn't matter where you place the #1 wire.

I bet the wires werent in the right place on the distributor. Or the rotor is the wrong one.
