Default Black smoke in VTEC?

Does anyone else with an H22a spit out excessive black smoke in VTEC? I know it runs rich, but this is ridiculous. A friend of mine was behind me one day, and I punched it, and he said it looked like a diesel. I don't remember it being this bad when I first got the swap done 70,000 miles ago.

H22s do tend to burn oil. Have u looked at the motor yet for any seal problems to cause excessive oil burning?

mine does the same exact thing... my back bumper is almost black from all the crap I shoot out. your best be is to get a VAFC and get your car dyno tuned. My car is not as bad after that, but still have some black stuff coming out. if you were burning oil, it would be white smoke, not black. do a search, I had the exact same topic.

actually i think blue smoke means burned oil or worn piston rings, white smoke means that coolant is getting in the combustion chamber.

My fuel system is completely stock, with the Prelude ecu. I was thinking about a V-AFC or something of that sort, but that costs $$ which I am lacking big time right now. I was wondering if this was a common thing or if there was a simple fix.

I have seen blue smoke before (not from my car). It's more like white smoke with a bluish tint to it.

I guess I'll live with it for now until i get some cash together. Thanx for the input guys.

if you want to know about any type of smoke ask Honda318dx, his old H22A smoked every color before it would shoot the infamous fireball out the exhaust.

valves not seated right and two cracked and chipped valves, with advanced timing it was running lean and burning oil. During upshifts when you got back into the throttle hard it would burn the fuel that had collected at that instant in the exhaust pipe. The car is run extremely hard (it is a race car now)

Hey Weekendracer I think I know you! Were you at MIR (Budds Creak Maryland) a few years ago?

Oh, by the way, B16s, B18s, H22s the all put out black smoke up in the rev range. Every DOHC VTEC has a filthy exhaust tip and it just gets worse with age. Sounds like you could go for some type of fuel correction or internal engine cleaning though.

Yeah, I've been there a few times I usually try to make it down at least once a year. This year was the first year I didn't go. What were you driving then?

You had/have the NYC Performace Factory banner on the windsheild? I was driving the same car (had it for almost 10 years now) but with F22. Click on the link in my sig and maybe you'll remember it. Just had the swap done 3 or 4 months ago. I've only been to the 1/4 mile about 5 times ever and haven't gone in probably 3 years. I would like to get some numbers on my new setup though. I'm hoping for mid/high 14s. It sure feels strong. What was your best ET/trap? HOw's your car doing?

Sorry, don't remember, but it looks tight. I like. I spent mad loot on my swap too. Performance Factory raped me on that one. But that was 3 years ago and I haven't had any swap related problems, so I have no complaints. I like the pic of the tach at 8k. I love doing that, especially when there's somebody in the car that doesn't realize I can do it. But I have to be careful when I drive my friends accord. My best 1/4 mile is a 14.62@95mph on street 15" tires. That was a cold *** day in November. Depending on weather, it'll usually run high 14's to low 15's. The motor's got over 100k now, so I don't think I'll be drag racing it any more, but I'll still hit up the autocross. Is that a Prelude cai on your car? I got one too, but I couldn't get it to fit right so I cut it and made it into a regular intake for now. I never got around to making it a cai again. What did you do to get it to fit?
