I cant figure this problem that i have out and i figured you guys might be able to help me.
I have a 96 accord. When I'm doing cruising speeds on the highway my car starts to make a droning noise. It sounds like its coming from under the hood or right under my feet. i cant tell.
It only makes this noise at 2500rpms. I will be doing around 60-65 and it will drone at 2500. If i press the gas more it stops then starts again once the car revs down to that 2500 mark. If i take my foot completely off the gas the rpms will hang at 2500 until it downshifts and the droning will lower with the rpms until im at about 2200 where it sounds normal again.

I know its not the brakes because i got new rotors and drums not too long ago.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

 

Only in 5th gear?

Probably just your exhaust.

 

sounds like a problem in your exhaust to me....that happened to me after my stock exhaust system blew and i bought an autozone mid-pipe (with resonator)...the worst thing have ever put on my car!!!!!!!!
this angered the gods!!!!

 

it may be the heat shield that is welded to the mid-pipe. took mine off my 96 & the sound is gone. to much vibration
