HELP!!! NEED TO MOUNT 2ND ALTERNATOR AND AMPMETER
I've got a 94 LX, looking to run 2 alternators, my question is where the hell would you mount the second alternator to? can someone post a pic so I can get an idea of how I should go about fabbing this? (I am prepared to pull off my A/C compressor to house the 2nd alternator if neccesary.)
I am trying to go for a marine style setup, 65a stock alt, for motor, 140A high output for the 2nd battery, might even get another 140 and run 2 140A alts... They will each have their own battery, eliminating the need to isolate and switch.
How do I go about wiring the 2nd alternator? I have a voltmeter and ampmeter, I want to run the amp meter on the 2nd, and voltmeter on the first, but dont know how to go about wiring them on the car, just patch + to + and - to - ???
Help me out here, this is the only thing im stuck on with my setup.
Thanks,
Matt

are you trying to do this because you have a heavy duty sound system or something?

I think he's trying to get out of paying the gas and electric company. Gonna plug the house into the second battery and convert the stove to gasoline.

i can't figure out why the hell anyone would need 2 alternators... unless:
1) you're putting 20 15" subs throughout the car so you can have the most annoying trunk rattle ever recorded in history...
2) trying to put enough neon lights on your car to light an entire city... or
3) see Chiovnidca's post.

2000W RMS (220AMPS)
I need my primary 140A alt to run the stock charging system, and 2 KX300.2's
2ndary runs 140A on spiracell /w KX800.2.
Now how do I go about fabbing this bracket?
Oh yeah, the KX800.2 makes cup-o-noodles :-D
Running a 140Amp alternator right now, i rate the cars power requirements by the stock alternator *(65Amps)
..and yes to answer your question, 2 Kicker Comp VR 18's runing 8ohms each...2000W at 8ohms is clean as hell for subs, and requires 10 fold the power requirements of a 2 ohm or 4 ohm speaker...

Couldn't you get just a single high output alternator? I have only EVER seen multiple alternators in spl vehicles that really can't be driven on the street. Check into a high output alternator before trying to fab a second in there

the reason they do that is so they can provide adequete charge at idle too...
it would be a hell of alot more effective if i could get a 200amp alt that would really charge 200amps... but for the application im looking for i need a 250amp or higher, and its just not gonna happen with one...
any ideas on how to fab this bracket?
...and how to rig up the volt and amp meters?

I thought they make beefy alternators for setups like this...

Actually, I think 2-alternator systems usually have completely separated electrical systems. You don't want the 2 voltage regulators fighting against each other.

Ur going to go def
To try to answer your question, it's going to be hard to fab up a bracket to fit 2 alts in there with the tight space. Most likly u will have to sort of re-locate ur existing alternator to do it. U could try to run the 2 alts in parallel, like one in front of the other, but might have to re-locate a few other items near them
probably doesn't help though

If you could fabricate a custom bracket you could easily put a second alternator where the AC compressor was and use that section of the crank pulley to drive it too. Of course this would delete AC. Same with power steering.
i do believe this is the wrong forum, let alone website for this sort of question...we are allzboutz performance motrrrzzz 'round hrrrrr.....
Who are you trying to fool? All you accord guys have systems, admit it
If you want performance come over to the FI forum.
