I might have a way, my friend tried this on his bug, and passed. You put some rubbing alcohol in your gas, so that it still burns, but not as rich. This is only an idea, so dont try it unless you want to, because I dont know if rubbing alcohol can harm your engine.

man you need to toss a cat on your car. Taking it off for what a gain of .5 hp in exchange for polluting CA?

Carsound Cats are like 50 bux, do yourself a favor and put on your exhaust.

U def need a cat. You can pick one up cheap on ebay. Go take the test pass then go back to your straight pipe.

Or (not suggesting nor have I ever done this)

but i heard if you get a car exactly like yours or close to it...a friend or someone's car that you knows passes. take it to your buddy, have him actually run that car on smog test, and use your Vin#

But for realz do the right thing, get a cat...it'll save you the headache of looking for a car everytime you need to get tested / and prevent your buddy from getting in trouble if he got caught.

Try to cheat harder or fix your car.
If you try to fix it up, at least put all the emissions equipment on it!
Running with no cat - good luck!

I'm going thru the same thing right now with my B16 + CTR cams, headers, no cat. I ordered a Carsound cat $56 shipped. I'm going to throw it on before I even have my car tested. You just confirmed that I would be wasting my time even trying without a cat (thanks). LA, Cali has some of the strictest smog laws, i figured there would be no chance passing without a cat.

Has anyone tried unplugging an injector, so it only runs on 3cyl?
