Default Jackson racing supercharger for B18B..is it worth it?

I have a 95 LS with 105k miles with I/H/E, i want to pick up some more power especially in the low end, also I would need it to be smog legal (live in CA) is this upgrade a good upgrade? i also want sometihing reliable too, turbo is not an option as alot of turbo kits are not smog legal. Thanks! For the people who have this upgrade, how do you like it?

not worth it the blower for the ls is different than the gs-r or type r blower. the ls one worse. go lsvtec it not that bad on reliability dont get too scared and supercharge that or get a turbo kit. if you modify any car ***** gonna happen.

actually there's this guy where i live that has a crx with an LS engine and a supercharger and he broke off a hatch with a cr-vtec (b20 vtec) bad. he was whipping people left and right. he also beat a DA integra with an LS/VTEC. got him by about 2 cars. SO an LS engine with a supercharger may seem dumb but are actually pretty quick.

I don't think a JR would be a bad option, but I was reading the installation manual and it seems to be a pain in the ***.

You'd be surprise how fast a greddy turbo kit can spool especially in your higher gears. That kit is carb legal and priced similar to the jr. Also, since you already have an obd I ecu, you can chip it and run very good fuel management. That would be a reliable setup.

thanks for the replies....definetly needs to be carb legal as I live in CA, and last time I checked, LS/Vtec is not smog legal, and so are many turbo kits. i did look at the instructions for the supercharger install, whoa! lotta steps there. :-)

You could just pick up a Greddy Turbo Kit and be CARB legal if its a must-happen. Well pieced together kit, and legal.

or get a vortech supercharger....MUCH easier to cool the charged air, allowing you to run more boost

I think the JRSC might be a cool idea for the b18b, but it's never going to be "scary fast". I would say that even with the largest pulley, the SC won't propel you much faster than a 50 or 60 shot of N2O. But, if you aren't planning on building internals, and you want to be smog legal--I think its a good choice.

Also, supercharger kits tend to be easier to install than a turbo kit, if that's important to you..

Does vortech even make a kit for the B18B?

dude screw the smog crap. my car didnt pass smog and i live here in cali too. i just took it to my buddy's dad shop and it passed . $150. but it was worth. didnt feel like taking parts off my car just for a smog. too lazy. but going turbo would be pretty good. like with a drag kit or a cybernation motorsports kit, also rev hard's are really good. its pretty much just up to how much power you want in the end. good luck bro

Thanks for all the feedback guys! I guess I should of been a little more specific on what power gains I was trying to achieve. I already own a 12 sec MR2 turbo with a lot of goodies and the 4 door Integra is my daily driver which is a bit anemic in power. i'm not trying to make this car into a street terror, just want a little more power off the line and some better acceleration when I enter freeways. What would be better for low to midrange power? JRSC or Greddy turbo kit? isn't the greddy td05-18 geared for mid to top range power like afte 4k rpms? any feedback would be appreciated. and something which I won't have to worry about upgrading my internals

I would say that if you would like more end power.....for entering freeways...short races..etc..you could go with the supercharger .. I've had the greddy turbo kit on my GSR, and it was great fun... but definatley more of a highway killer... I didn't upgrade my internals on my GSR when I went turbo..and KABOOM!! So after my motor was rebuilt.. I wish I went JRSC..just because its more reliable..but your definatley going to be slower then a snail... I guess it all depends on what you want... and to me, I think the JRSC would suit u best..

I don't think JRSC would be a problem. You'd get the power you want.... just remember to upgrade your internals.

The JRSC adds a load of torque and some considerable horsepower to the b18b engine. One thing you should remember, however, is that the dyno on JRSC shows the crappy FMU system. A properly tuned system with a smaller pulley will easily turn out some nice numbers.

Not sure how this would make a difference but the Greddy Kits are legal only on the OBD-II 96+ integras. To what extent they will be smog legal or rather even operational without modification for the OBD-I 94-95 integras.. I do not know.

=P

Perhaps someone can fill us in?

well from what you said just go with the supercharger. its more reliable, instant power, and i like the way they sound when you run them. but then if in the future you want more power, just sell the s/c and buy yourself a turbo kit. thus making everyone in this world a happy camper. but dont worry about me, my tent is always pitched!!

super chargers r for ********. u should def go turbo, it gets u more power out of a 4 banger than a super charger.

thanks guys, I just found out the Greddy kit will not work for me, or is not smog legal for my year (1995). Darn it. Any other smog legal options besides the superchager? Thanks!

I wouldn;t waste the money on the SC for the b18b

I checked out JR and it only give you 160whp, whereas on the b18c you get 220!
