Default Spark plug wires - is bigger better?

I just bought a set of Arospeed 9.2mm spark plug wires for my all stock 91 Civic D15B1. My factory wires are not bad, but I just wanted a reasonable upgrade. I got a good deal on them, not the 50+ dollars off the website. Here is the issue: the metal connector for the distributor on two of the wires doesn't hold on the distributor cap, but the other two do. I can possibly reshape the ends with pliers. Second, The rubber cover around the wire that caps the area around the hole in the valve cover is a universal I guess because it is able to move up and dwn the wire. Even when it is down it doesn't seem to provide the same degree of seal that the factory wires do. I regularly wash the engine bay and I rely on those seal points to prevent the water from seeping down to the plugs. Is this an issue? Anyone with these wires and no problems?

My overall point of this post is the following:
Is a larger size of wire better?
If so, why?
If not, why and what are the disadvantages? Any long term damage possibilities?

I have not run my car with these wires on yet, so I need the info before I do.

BTW, if it matters, my plugs are the manual recommended NGKs with about 15K on them.
