Default horsepower questions

Hey I'm new here and i've been looking over some threads and i'm wondering what the difference is between horsepower measured at the wheels, and horsepower measured other places. when you look on the specs of a car, for example my d15b2 motor makes 92 hp stock. where is that hp measured. I did try searching the FAQ threads before i posted this but please direct me elsewhere if this has already been answered. Thanks for the info.

92 hp is measured at the crank.
you have to account for the 15% loss that takes place in the tranny.
so your d15 makes close to 80 to the wheel.
92 hp was when it was new. Probably lost a few hp over the years.

Yup, also consider 15% is typical for manual trannys, up to 20% for autos. Course this all depends on each car but its a general guideline. Horsepower at the wheels is listed as WHP, not just HP. So your 92HP makes 80WHP like said before. If you see 80WHP then the motor itself makes 92HP. Kinda confusing, hope I made sense, heh.

yeah it varies of course for all cars, most rwd lose even more power than fwd through the driveline. yeah an it's more accurate as a percentage .

that clears up some confusion when people make claims about hp that come out lower than a stock model. thanks a lot everyone.
