Default Painting a Car Yourself

I saw on Trucks show on TV them showing you how to paint a car yourself. I have never attempted to do this before and was wondering if I bought an air compressor and one of the $200 paint sprayers for it would it look like crap if I did it? I would probably just do the hood and bumpers. They arnt in bad shape but do have some scratches on them mainly just the kind that show up with a dark colored car because my accord is really dark green that is almost black or blueish depending on how the sun reflects it is the dark green the 96 EX models came in. I have an uncle that said his dad used to have one of these paint sprayers and could just sand it spray primer on it and spray some paint on it just keep your hand steady at about 8in away. Is it really this easy? Also my car has been sitting out in the sun for a few weeks and the tan dash has a few black type marks on it like scrapes or something they are really small but if you look closely you can see them and it appears the dash is painted or something and these are like 2 or 3 really tiny marks showing through is there away to get rid of these. Anyone tried putting fingernail polish on them that is a simliar color?

NO NO NO.. there is a reason they get paid what they do. just take it to a body shop. if you try to do it yourself you will have more fish eyes then a bin laden salad

Ok I think I will live with it just like it is but I thought it might be fun to try it myself it isnt all that bad right now anyway. I would eventually like to get my whole car painted as there is this accord just like mine only an LX instead of an EX and he has it painted a pearl blue that looks awesome but doens't stick out too much and I love how it looks. What makes it so hard to paint your car does the paint run or bubble or what happens?

Take it from me, its best to just get it done at a shop and make shure you get a warranty in case it flakes or peals.. you know?

i panted my bumpers once... it looked "Ok" and didn't flake but it costs 100 bucks in spray can's and a lot of time ... and it looked "ok" not like the rest...

if you buy the the equipment it could run you around 1000 dollars

You at least should buy 500$ dollar compressor you need heavy duty due to constant spraying of paint job

100-200$$ for spray gun

100-300$$ for paint and prep tools

lots of time & a garage to do all the work (dust &partical free)

--- basicly you arnt going to buy all this unless you were to set up a shop right?

if you wanted to do it yourself i was thinking of trying a electric spray gun(to paint house's) it holds paint and sprays 1000psi or more (i think) anyway its at wal-mart in hardware dpmt. they cost $230 bucks and paint cost 70 bucks for few gallons of jet black... (this is all Canadian currency)

you do the math there is no "cheap" paint job unless you steal the equipment and paint..

My thought was that I have been thinking about buying a compressor anyway for other stuff and that I could just get one of those $200 paint sprayers for it. The compressor I was looking at was the 33GAL Craftsman would I need one bigger than that. I don't think Im going to paint it because it dowesnt look all that bad just a slight scuff on the front bumper not sure what it's from and some light scratches that show up on all dark colored cars.
