ok thanks.....would it make any difference if i use 10w-30 motor oil....i heard mobil 1 with supersyn is the best motor oil out there for high milage cars like mines (180k) and i was told by some to go for 10w-30 because i have higher milage.....n how much bottles or litres would i need to put in a 2.2 litre engine

Live in TO eh. Fast freeways, hectic traffic. I have a 99 Accord 2.3L and run 10-40 in the summer and 5-30 in the winter. A mechanic recommended these oils because I was complaining about oil consumption problems. i couldn't tell you if it has made any difference but the beast still sucks volumes of oil. I guess it's my lead foot or something. I don't see smoke out the exhaust or oil spots on the ground so I guess it is all going up the tailpipe. I just keep a constant eye on that oil dipstick. Even bought an oil pressure gauge to install as well.
Anyways we have fast roads here in TO. The temperature extremes range from minus 30C to plus 50C so I figure a little thinning or thickening of the oil is called for at certain times of the year. Imagine being an engine in january. The windchill at 140km/hr is probably minus -150C so imagine a thick might have problems.
Oh yes, because of our temperature extremes you must change your oil at least every 3-5000km. I generally change my oil every 3000km or when it doesn't look very clear on the dipstick. Take your pick. If you do alot of city driving expect to change your oil at least as often.

If you do switch to Mobil 1 (and that's the only synthetic I would use, and I do use it in my '93 Volvo 940 Turbo wagon with ~ 140,000 miles), be sure to change your oil again after only 2,000 miles or so. This is because the synthetic will knock a bunch of crud out of your engine the first time you put it in.

In my Volvo, when I changed my oil again with Mobil 1 after 2,000 miles, the oil was very black and sludgy.

For what it's worth, in my '99 Accord 4 cyl with ~ 65,000 miles, I put Castrol GTX 5w30 in it.

First off...It's VTEC...not VTECH....

Secondly, it's really hard to read your posts...try to make them more grammitcally and punctually correct.

Valvoline Synthetic is not a true synthetic...the only true, 100% synthetic you will find at most stores is Mobil 1.

5w is good for all year round...

I like to use 10w in the summer and 5w in the winter...

My 91 Accord went 248,000 miles on Valvoline dino oiil...I just recently switched to Mobil 1 Supersyn...not one leak....and it doesn't burn any either...runs great!

it's true that mibil 1 is very good but consider AMSOIL....do some research before you make a decision.

Amsoil is what I use in my Integra Type R Very good stuff, but a bit more money...

I would use 5w30 regular oil...all ear use...If you plan to use syntethic ,and you have a weak gasket or seal, you ll have some trouble. Is not only more expensive than the regular, but in your situation, may do more harm than good. You can try it like I did , and hopefully you ll have more luck than I did.

Use your dipstick and measure it after you put a few quarts in ...if it doesn't show up...put more in....if it hits the second dot, you're fine...that's why the dipstick is there...

umm id use 10w30 dino oil... high mileage motors sometimes start leaking when you toss syn into them. 10w30 isnt too thick for winter... ive always had it in my cars in -30 or less weather and its been fine. only reason i say use 10w30 is 5w30 might be a bit light for heavy driving in hotter weather. and if you dont have to switch weights... bulk up and get cases of oil...

If you have the money, I would go for Royal Purple Synthetic. The stuff has been wonderful in my Honda. I live in Texas and in the summer it's 110 degrees and in the winter around 35 degrees. Two extremes and it has never failed.
