sticky residue on the top of my trunk
after washing my car today i found some sticky residue on the surface of my trunk. i tried rinsing and scrubbing at the same time, but that wouldnt work. would it be safe to use goo-gone? or if not, are there any other options?
Use 3m Adhesive and wax remover. Its a little black and tan/brown can and it smells like paint thinner. It works really well without damaging car paint. I use it all the time when I detail cars.
Auto stores like Pep Boys or Autozone will have it. Places like wal mart probably wont, because it's more than the average weekend cleaner would buy. It's a lot better than bug & tar remover. Just make sure to wax the spot you put it on, because you'll strip the wax off. My mom backed her TL into a gutter and got a huge swath of red paint about 8 in long stuck to her car and I took it off in less than a minute- this stuff works.
If that doesnt take it off i'd get some sort of scratch remover with a rubbing compound and that should be abrasive enough to get more of it off.
