Greddy EVO2 vs Mugen TL vs OEM ... some pics and facts ..
Well I finally decided to go Mugen twin loop for that "quiet" exhaust I was looking for. I found a GREAT deal from a friend and bought it. The resonator is a bit mistreated from low car-to-ground clearance but the system works fine and sounds great !!
Before I installed the Mugen and before I ship out the EVO2 to its new owner I thought I'd snap some pics and share with you guys.. Out of the three, the EVO2 is the ONLY complete 2.25" system. The Mugen starts at just under 2" at the cat-collector side and goes up to just over 2.25" after the resonator. OEM system changes diameter all over but I guess you can still call it 2.25" on the average (way too many bottlenecks).
All in all, I think a combination of the EVO2 b-pipe and the Mugen TL axle-back would have been a nice setup but, as the saying goes, you can't have your cake and eat it too.. The TL makes the car quieter (barely louder than OEM) and torquier at lower revs while the EVO2 makes power up top and is one LOUD MotherF !!
I have a few extra pics if anyone is interested PM me ...
Here are some side-by-side pics of the three exhausts...
Left to right: Mugen, OEM, Greddy

Same order as above; notice how tiny the OEM axle-back connector compares to the EVO2 and Mugen ..

Left to right: Greddy, OEM, Mugen.. This shot shows how straight the cat-to-resonator pipe is on the EVO2.. I really liked this fact over the Mugen and OEM which have a couple of bends before the resonator. Greddy did a great job here as the managed to keep the diameter at 2.25" while minimizing bends with ABSOLUTELY NO clearance problems between the pipe and the car !!

OK... I think I missed the point. stock is bad, Mugen is bad too and greddy is good?
But we know the stock has bottlenecks and that mugen has weight and smallish piping and anything else will outflow stock.
No :fire: just trying to figure out whats your point.

No problems Rob
I'm really not trying to make a point with this .. I simply happened to have all these parts available for a side-by-side photo shoot and I thought I'd share with you guys .. The fact that I liked the EVO2 b-pipe in combination with the Mugen axle-back is just an opinion...

Butt dyno ?? Let me check
hehe !!
The EVO2 seemed to make LOTS of power up top where my JUN3s like it but it is LOUD as hell !! I also didn't like the low-end power for daily driving. It was loud and slow in traffic. The actual dyno with this system was 190.1WHP so the system works. I experienced a lot of backfiring when I let off the gas which I didn't like. Quality on this system is top-notch. No vibration, no cheap welds, etc. etc.. Greddy quality gets a
The twin loop is great for everyday driving. I've had it on the car for a couple of days and I love the way it "zings" through the gears. I don't need to rev high to hit the torque band as I had to with the EVO2; 3k-3500 rpm seems comfortable enough for shifting without sacrificing "zing"
. The TL is slightly louder than OEM in a very nice way; it sounds nice and deep with just a tone of aggressiveness (compared to the EVO2 which was loud right off the line and stayed loud until the engine was shut-off). On the highway, the TL sounds awesome; deep and loud enough but not annoying at all. I can actually TALK to people in the car while driving
My butt-dyno tells me I lost a few ponies moving from the EVO to the Mugen but, as some of you know, I was looking for a quiet system and willing to give up a few hp to get there.
Both EVO2 and Mugen are much better systems than OEM, obviously. If I wanted all-power and didn't care about hearing myself think while driving, the EVO2 is the ticket. However, the twin-loop is the one to get if you want something better than OEM that performs well, sounds extremely nice, and has the required bling factor. I'll let you know how the dyno goes as soon as I get a few parts I ordered.

Write ups like this kicks ***.
I hope the noob will search and find this thread instead of them asking us which is better and blah blah

I know a couple of guys with DC catbacks and they are way different than the EVO2 but probably the biggest difference is that DC is much quieter and produces torque at lower revs than the EVO..
Can you tell I'm stuck-up with QUIET exhaust systems ??

no not really, sure turbos LIKE bigger exhaust, but the fact of the matter is that greddy evo's can support over 300whp no problem. i had a greddy turbo kit (only 6 psi) on my old 00 si and with the evo the car was about as quiet as it gets crusing around. there was a thread in the FI forum a long time ago where a bunch of guys finally admitted 3 inch is overkill for anything under about 300 whp. it's the truth, but everyone is on the big *** exhaust bandwagon.

great review
i always love reading threads like this........i was actually thinking of a new exhaust maybe like a t1r, but i only have just bolt ons for now....
ive had the twin loop since late 00 so i love it im stickin to it
