Official "I redlit at the Peru ProSolo" thread
Driving a borrowed STX WRX wagon (Thanks Steve!), I think I redlit a total of 8 times this weekend including the practice. Of course, I didn't do it Sunday morning when it counted but I pussed out on the lights, which cost me the win by .044 seconds.
Funny how a ~270 hp AWD car leaving the line at 5500-6000 rpm leaves a little quicker than a FWD on Hoosiers.
Highlight of the weekend: Running against Tom Hoppe Saturday afternoon. The Wagon and Tom's car have identical exhausts, and we were both launching at identical RPM's. Hearing those two cars launching in unison was really, really cool. We got compliments on our synchronization.
In the challenge, smoked Andy Hollis on the left by .668. I think I was already by him by the end of the starting straight even though he left earlier. That's a good margin, but this was my first challenge so I think I probably needed some learnin' from the Autocross gods or something; I got over to the right side, staged and the split tree started coming down, earlier for Andy than for me, but just by a few tenths of a second. And, stupid noob that I am, I went a little too early because I wasn't focused on my half of the tree. Free win for Andy, and he went on to win the challenge which means over 2000 dollars of total prize money for him. He drove his *** off in the next three rounds. I think he was probably carrying a little sand during his first run against me.
I'd never touched the car before Friday so I'm pretty stoked with the results. Honduh drivers can drive other stuff.
Congrats to Nate (solo-x) and Brian (bfitz) for their strong finishes in STS and DS respectively as well.

Yeah, looking at the results, if only Nate was clean on his last run, it would have given him the win in the 'wrong' car.
Great driving all.. and just goes to show you... wagons are faster!! :D (But they DO like to redlight.... like me in final four of the super challenge at the Finale last year)

Good driving Rich!
Unfortunately I sucked *** until the challenge. Broke out by 0.7 on the left side on Courtney's dialin. Yea, that slalom made a *slight* difference. I also got taken out on the line by hollis. I lost by 0.077 over both sides, but had both 0.7xx lights after watching everyone redlight it away
oh well.....

"sucking sucks"

I redlit a run Sunday morning that would have had me as second fastest on the "team" this weekend...
My cars came in 2-5 in FS -- Kevin Dietz (green terror), Eric Kriemelmeyer (black death), me (green terror), then Pat (black death). The best part of the weekend was the trash talking between me and Kriemelmeyer at the line with seconds left on the shot clock.... he is just a washed up Subie driver, you know!!!

Let's see, six runs on the left side, two with red lights and three with cones. So that's one clean run on the left ... and of course it wasn't my fastest. Would have been 2nd in FS without those orange things.

At least I showed the STS guys what it's like having a clean Civic, lol. Maybe dirt = fast?
I had fun, even though I discovered several issues that needs to be addressed on the car--like finding out why something still feels loose up front (not handling, but mechanical) after I performed all of the suggestions folks gave me.
Oh, and finding the fuel starve limit on Sunday morning rocks too
-Todd, who should have taken the R given the favorable course layout. But I still suck at Pros, so more than likely it would not have mattered.

At least you guys got to TAKE a light in the challenge... our passenger side axle gave up the ghost after four years of 2-3 driver ProSolos with 7-8k launches.
Diff = 2 seasons
Driver's Side Axle = 2 seasons
Passenger Side Axle = 4 seasons
Beating your competition so badly that there were no other BS cars in the challenge to borrow = priceless.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting too much sympathy! I'm pretty sure I get qualifying money, because it was for qwalifying, not running. I guess I'll find out in six months when accounting gets around to paying the Peru event!
Nice driving Rich... other than the lights, you showed them whatcha got. If course, I knew that when you roasted Jinx after that Evo school!

I'm going to start lobbying the real Rich W hard to get in a car together next year at a few national events.
We could play the "Which Rich is Which?!" game at Pros, and save money on vinyl.

1st ProSolo ever.
Dave Hironaka, F125 champion of years past says: "Hey, take my 125 shifter to a ProSolo".
Me: "Hey, why not. Can i at least learn how to drive a shifter beforehand?"
Dave: "Sure."
I drive it twice. a total of 20mins.
get there. we should do practice starts, but, kart was having issues. No practice starts for me.
day 1. Kart still having problems. I get 2 runs. the other 4 were tossed due to kart problems.
day 2. Kart still having minor problems, but runs, except on 2 of my runs. I get 4 of my runs.
Never redlighted, but, never got a good launch either (i think i was averaging a .8 RT). ended up 2nd from last. but, one of my left side laps was right on par for 3rd. right side...well.
2nd ProSolo ever.
took my CRX this time, but, it was my first time with 13x9 wheels, and my first time ever running esctas. i placed 2nd from last again and red light 4 runs...never got any practice starts either (showed up too late).
3rd ProSolo... well, that's not here yet, but, i plan on doing better than 2nd from last

teh coneheAd striketh again!!!11!!1
at least i beat brian in the first round of the challenge. by .005 seconds. bastard was listening to his radio though
and heard i hit a cone on the second run. didn't matter though, because that cone opened the floodgates and i think 5 more followed in real quick succession.
oh, something for ANYONE wanting to do a national level event to keep in mind. even when you think you've nailed a cone ALWAYS, and i mean ALWAYS assume the cone stood back up.
nate
ps. congrats to everyone.

Truth. I threw away my last run at the Toledo Tour because I *thought* I hit a cone, and I did, but it was a dumb idea because it could have stood up and a fast last run was the difference between 2nd and 6th.

Nice driving this weekend. Hows about you swap me your Motons for my stock shocks for Nationals just so you can say "I kicked buttt in BS on stock shocks." What are you gonna do with TWO national champion jackets
