One thing fixed, another broken!
I had some time to kill today so I set about fixing my climate control lights, which have burned out a while ago. While I was at it, I wanted to change the color to a light amber by just installing #74 Sylvania bulbs bought from Pep Boys. They work fine, just a tad bigger for the sockets. Then I set about matching the instrument cluster color as well. It turned out the #74 Sylvanias are just too big for the sockets. I needed a Dremel to grind the bulb's base down a little, but wasn't going to spend $70 on the spot. Maybe another day. With everything back where it should be, I noticed that my clock is hella dim! Pushing the buttons brightens the digits, but on as long as the buttons are pushed. I think my clock is broken! Is it? I was pretty happy with the new climate light being light amber and brighter, but the darn clock! Anyone got any idea what coulda happen?
Gaara, that is not likely since a lot of people have used Sylvania #74, painted with amber enamel paint, for their climate control. I have not read a thread reporting the bulbs draining power from the clock.
Jack: nope, the clock is way dim, very hard to see.
Oh yeah, there are also three thin red lines streaking across the clock's face!

Just came back from the supermarket. I started the car in the parking lot and saw the right climate-control bulb burned out right before my eyes. After all that work to get the cluster removed and installing the new bulb! It lasted not more than 10 minutes of total ON time! I am mad as hell.
Maybe them LEDs at superbrightleds are the things to get!
