newb paint ?s about painting on chrome
i have chrome window trim on my car, and i want it black..... i have already done it with electrical tape, but it does not look perfect and is starting to peel from heat and what not..... \
i am thinking of spraypainting it black.... i have no experience wiht painting.... do u have to sand this chrome window trim before i paint it? and do i have to primer it? which steps can i skip and get away with... if i sand it , i will never be able to get it back to regular right??? will the paint and primer be removable after if i just do those 2?? what if i just paint it with no primer and no sanding?

I'll reply
Yes you can paint chrome... I have done it a thousand times on motorcycles.
What you need is a good paint. (spary cans are fine).
Wash the trim really good with DEGREASER. Then scuff it up with either 400 grit sand paper or grey scotch brite pads. Then apply you paint.
If you use spray cans, apply really thin coats and wait about 10 minutes or so between.

yeah, looks like i'll be going that route too..i tried the electric tape thing it alway seems to peel...
now i just have to find time to mask it all up and paint the thing...

thanks, i went to kragens and bought a can of black spray paint and 2 inch wide masking tape haha
i have decided to skip the sanding since that seems like the hardest part, and it would ruin the chrome (especialy since its not technicaly my car) lol
i will just respray it everytime the paint chips off... lol
and the guy at kragens told me that primer would be useless if i dont sand it so i didnt even buy primer.. does anyone know if primer would help it stay any longer?
