PVC intake Bad?

I heard once that Cold Air intakes made by PVC pipes are bad for Cars.

Is there more info about this?
Is this harmfull?

i made a pvc cai, but made it a shortram after all the rain tho. i havent noticed any problems since putting on it...

You're better off getting a drop in K&N filter and calling it a day.
