Default Weird experience today...can anyone comment?

K so i get in my 88 crx and go to start the car. It cranks but does not start. Sounds like i'm just not getting fuel so first i try starting and listening to the fuel pump prime itself...can't hear it.
Then I try to listen for the main relay...can't hear it click. So i just keep messing with it and try starting while mashing the gas pedal.
Next i get codes 16 and 41.
So i unplug the ECU to reset it and keep trying to start. Finally i hear the Main relay click and fuel pump prime and it starts. When i got home and shut it off i tried to start again and it fired right up.

Questions:

1) Will the fuel pump only prime if the main relay kicks?

2) Do i just need a main relay?

3) If only my main relay is bad why would i get those 2 codes?

Thanks

Vince

Sometimes when main relays go bad they wont start when the car is hot or sitting out in the sun but then at night or in a cool garage they will start And that is what I know about them.

Yes, your main relay is gone. You can resolder it yourself.. Pretty easy, or you can spend the 50$ and get a new one

So how easy is it...just unclip relay, take off plastic cover and solder any bad connections?

On an 88 is it on the bottom of the interior fuse panel? Or somewhere hard to get to?

It should be right above the hood release and to the left of the coin tray behind the dash.

My car always does that whenever I put gas in my car. Just started happening recently.
