MY right headlight keeps killing bulbs, help please!
Hey guys
Well, this is the second bulb its burnt in the last 7 months, what do you think could be the problem? I've been using Sylvania Silverstars, but that shouldnt really matter because the left headlight has been fine for the last 7 months
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Silver stars are known to blow. the bulbs like that that give off more light then "normal" do so because they run more current through them to create that. resulting in short bulb life.
i would suggest trying a different kind of bulb. something higher quality.
other then that if you have a multi meter check the voltage and current levels on the right socket. compare them to the left. if there is enough of a difference then trace it back until you find the problem.

I bought a few different aftermarket light bulbs and they kept blowing so i said f that and I got some OEM ones, make sure you use gloves to change the light bulbs because the oil on your skin when **** up the bulb. Ive herd PIAA makes pretty good bulbs from many people.

Well, that first part would make sense, but the thing is, im using silverstars in BOTH headlights, and the left side has been great since ive put it in, the right socket has now blown two, which leads me to beleive that there is a voltage problem. I'm not sure, but thats what ima thinkin.

Haha, nah, im not touchin it with my hands. I kinda wish i was, because that would be such a simple fix. Unfortunatly, i think its something more complicated

i had the same problem. It would only blow 1 side at a time, and it just friggin pissed me off to no end!! There is nothing you can do, its going to keep blowing bulbs no matter what kind you put in, its just the nature of the beast. 5th gens do not like aftermarket bulbs. Even if you get high quality pretty bright white bulbs, your car will eat them. Go back to OEM and you wont have anymore problems.

If you really want really clear lights get a hid kit, its gonna be expensive but its gonna look really really good and last alot longer.

This guy knows what he's talking about. 5th gen ludes are "notorious" for blowing after-market bulbs. In fact, I've seen other cars driving around w/ one headlight out. It's usually people w/ bright bluish after-market bulbs.
I've spent $200+ on after-market 55w bulbs, either they go out or blow up ON THE PASSENGER SIDE only. I stopped using them after one blew and left glass all over the inside of the headlight housing.
As stated above, go back to OEM or look into MTEC bulbs on ebay. Or get a HID system, it's the same as spending 200+ on bulbs.

I've had the same problem too...hundreds of dollars on different bulbs but the only thing that lasted was OEM...
Silverstars lasted the longest of all the aftermarket bulbs with a total life span of maybe 3 weeks...BS is ya ask me

I didn't read all the posts..... so sorry for any reposts.
Sylvania Silver Stars are still in design stage for H1's. They just came out and are problamatic. I have done TON's of research on H1's and know that they will not last for more than 6 months to a year (and yet I have them in my car and love them). I do know that since they are still in design phase, if you phone sylvania and tell them your bulbs blew that they will replace them free of charge in return for the old bulbs (so they can analyse them and improve their design).
The problem with them is that H1's are small bulbs with small elements and take more abuse to get the same brightness as regular halogens. The sylvania's have the blue coating to filter the yellow and give off the pure white light, so they have increased the intensity of the light to account for light loss. In other words, they overdrive the bulb and this alone is the reason they blow prematurely.
If you want a long lasting bulb....... never buy generic bulbs or sylvania silver stars. The Osram Silver Stars (European slightly yellower version without the blue coating, BRIGHT), Philips Vision Plus (Whiter than stock but still yellow and BRIGHT), PIAA Pure Whites ($$$$$)......... or if you want the pure white, the Phillips Blue Vision (don't really have blue, similar to Sylvania SS's but just a little less bright).
Reviewing some above posts, the passenger headlight has slightly higher voltage and has more of a power surge when the headlights come on. The passenger bulb is almost always the first to go. Usually when one bulb burns, there is a power surge to the other one, then it's days are numbered as well (from what I have read)

I had the same problems i must have gone through 3 or 4 sets of bulbs i thought it was a wiring short traced everthing and couldnt find a prob. A freind of mine had an RSX that had the same prob and he switched to the raybrig bulbs and didnt have a problem so i did to and i havnt blown a bulb in 9 months.
Another thing 5th gens are notorious for is headlight top mounts being broken. They may have been spec'd wrong from the factory, but I mostly see it on one side. Check if it has pried loose. It may look whole but you sometimes have to remove the bolt and watch the mount fall out to see it. Anyways it may be wobbling. Also try swapping the boots from left to right. You may not be getting adequate ventilation or one headlight gets more engine heat than the other. Switching back to OEM will cure this or retrofitting HID will. I opted for D2S bulbs and projectors.
