Hey guys.. I am seriously thinking of selling my R, getting something cheaper and paying off some debt for a little while. How much do you think my R is worth with and without the mods? Mods currently are: Mugen header, Mugen exhaust, AEM Intake, OEM Acura bodykit, Comptech Sport Springs, 17” Custom Volk Daytona Speeds with Dunlop SP9000 tires and Red Recaro SRD Racing Seats. It is a 2000 PY ITR with 26k miles. What is the best route to go? Sell as is or return to stock then sell it? Taking the mods off seems like such a hassle.....

 

If you sell it to someone who knows what they are buying, don't take the mods off...they will know that those parts are worth more than the stockers. But if you sell it to someone who doesnt quite know, or sell it to a dealer (ugh), then taking off the mods is the best idea, as uninformed buyers are discouraged by consumer authorities from buying modified cars.

 

aaahhhhhhhhhhhhh...........keep the car and get a better paying JOB !

I have a well paying job.. trust me.. I just want to get out of debt right now, I am 24 and would like to buy a house next year. The ITR cost me $700 a month including insurance......

 

If the car were stock I would suggest $21-$22k. Taking the mods off may seem like a hassle but you will probably earn yourself a few thousand dollars.

Many people are afraid to buy a modified car and those that are not will probably give you thge equivalent of 10-20 cents on the dollar for your parts. I have seen several Type-R with $5-$10k of parts going for perhaps $2k over the stock asking price. Grab a wrench and spend a day removing the parts - you will effectively earn more than $100 per hour in that time.

 

yeah if you must sell, take off your mods and sell those seperately. Sell the car as stock. Its a collectors car, too... so you can even put it on ebay and make bank off of it.

 

is the header the USDM or JDM Mugen?

 

see, this is the thing i never understand with people... but a sweet car, then, waste all kinds of money on parts (parts that we all want, but don't really need) then sell it for a loss. yet to understand why people do this....

 

Thats just part of the addiction D. We spend money on our cars to make them break more often, that's just how it goes.

I was in the same position, but I held onto my car. I did a compromise and sold the parts to pay off some debt and did some debt consolidation. Right now, the housing market is a buyers market so you don't need much down and can get great financing. As long as your debt to income ratio is at a max of 50%, you'll be approved. Then after you buy your house, you can always get an equity loan to pay off your debts and write off the interest for taxes. Also, did you look into pricing out different insurance companies for your car and try refinancing at a lower rate? That could lower your payments quite a bit. Heck, if lowering your monthly commitents is what your after, did you try getting a 72 month loan for your ITR and possibly adjusting your insurance comp/collision deductible and liability requirements? Anyway best of luck, I'm just glad I kept my car and manage to purchase a home.

 

I say sell the car and get out of debt. It's the smart thing to do.

Just sell some of your mods to help pull yourself out of debt, I'll give you the stock parts just to see a fellow ITR owner keep their car.

Well if i part out the car and keep it, then I will need a stock exhaust and header... i didnt keep mine..

 

Take off the parts that you can replace with the OEM parts, ie. air filter.
Then leave the rest. Insurance is so expensive for the Type R.
