I decided to start a new post to share the story of the evening. I've lived in FL for 15 years and we've had out fair share of minor storms and minor hurricanes, but haven't taken a direct hit from a large hurricane in nearly 50 years. When I got a call from Nick staying to be safe cause his family lost half their house, I put the beer down and brought the porch furniture in and just hoped for the best. Winds began to kick up and then BOOM the power went out and we couldn't give live updates anymore. Thanks to quick work from Progress Energy, we're finally back up and running. Let me first say that life without light and air conditioning sucks donkey *****. It was so ******* hot in the house. We ran out of beer at like 11:00 p.m. and all the stores were closed also. Winds began to pick up around 8:30 pm, just around the same time the power went out. We had a little portable battery operated TV with only 1 news channel because the other 2 major stations had lost power as well. By 10:30-11 p.m. the 105 mph winds were ripped through my neighborhood taking down fences and trees in the process. Fortunately my porch held up to the winds as well as the house. I lost some branches off my palm trees, but I feel very fortunate. I'll let the pics speak for themselves. Be safe and never underestimate the weather. Make sure all insurance is up to date homeowners.
Road's closed PIZZA BOY!!!

Sadness pics

All the traffic lights are out, so police need to direct that traffic...

Where'd the traffic light go?

Oh, there it is..

I think I can drive under this...

This section of porch flew from the back yard over the house into the neighbor's front yard

aren't these power lines supposed to be in the air??

This guy lives up the street from me about 50 yards....yes, that went through his house.

Guess I'll go rent a movie....whoops, guess not!

That's all for now

Glad j'all are ok
I read that one guy in FL got killed when a tree fell on him when he went out to smoke, and I couldn't help but start worrying about D
Those pics remind me a lot of when Fran rolled through Raleigh - looks very similar.

Glad everyone is okay Marc,
yeah when Fran came through, I think we were without for about 2 weeks.

lots of destruction
hope everything is ok over there. hurricanes are daunting. though we don't have them as frequently in hawai'i, they get nasty as well. hurricane iniki was a brutal one that took out the island of kaua'i. they had winds up to 200 mph. no joke.

good luck w/ the recovery!

kepani-who respects nature very much.
