Just Bought My First Honda and i dont know whats under the hood
Okay just bought my first honda a 95 civic EX coupe noticed something i think is off
the heads say dohc vtec ...i thought they were supposed to be sohc.
but then again its not quite stock has yokico shocks dc headers some after market exhaust has aem fuel regulator high flow intake forgive me for not knowing the name .. any have picks of what a stock engine is supposed to look like i noticed the head sits a little higher than everything else i dont think i have a cm between it and the hood
pics would be nice or some info on how to identify the motor would probably be better

unfortunately I don't have a picture but... on the tranny side of the engine just below the coolant return hose there should be a small engraved block code printed onto the engine. If it starts with a 'B' it's a b series engine. (master of the obvious I am) If it starts with 'D'... swap it.
Do a search on all of the different Honda engine codes to familiarize yourself with it. Welcome to H-T.

Indeed. THe B18B is an LS motor. Good low compression for lots of boost. But, if your valve cover says DOHC VTEC on it, you might have an LS/VTEC swap as someone already stated.
Both ways, I pray you didn't get someone else's nightmare. Plus, you do have a NICE motor/platform to work with. How does it run? Pulls strong and pretty quick? How much did you get it for? Take a few pics of the entire motor.

Ahh man, they gave you the wrong motor. Why don't you come to MN and I'll change that out for the proper stock motor and send you on your way.
I would be scared to buy an LS vtec for that cheap and from somebody that I don't know, I would not buy an LS vtec period unless I built it.
