89 hatch si - leaking sunroof - clogged drain tubes or seal?
*yes i searched before i post this - only found 2 threads*
so last night it rained pretty hard, and untill i sell my dsm, i have to park my newly aquired 89 hatch si outside. its a VERY low milage car, 76k on it now, was owned by an old lady who passed away. all i know is that it used to be kept in a barn and is one of the cleanest, straightest cars that is 15 years old ive ever seen. back on topic - so i pick a friend up to take him to the airport this morning and he sits down in the passenger seat and jumps up right away - he's soaked... we feel around the sunroof and see that its wet near the passenger side corner, closest to the windshield.
now, i know the drain tubes are at the rear of the sunroof, and i also know that the seal itself on my car appears to be in great shape, not dry-rotted and doesnt appear to be lifting. from people who have had problems w/ this - have you found that its usually one or the other? im thinking that if i was parked on a slight downgrade, the water couldnt exit thru the drain tubes if they were clogged and just poured fwd and slowly started to leak thru... i wont be able to test out the drain tubes till tomorrow at work when i have access to compressed air - just looking for some other opinions

there are drain tubes at all four corners of that sunroof - it is most likely just clogged - take down the interior roof piece and you will see the tubes at each corner - just take an air hose and blow the crap out of them - that is all i had to do with mine when i first got it - had the same problem. now it can rain all day long and no water inside my car. but, there are 4 drain tubes, not just 2 in the rear.
This is one of the most common problems with the crx. The biggest problem is that there is not just one answer out there. Many people experience the cabin leak due to different reasons. First you need to find out where the leak is coming from. I located the leak by stripping the interior, and then I had my younger brother hose down the car while I checked to see where the water was coming in from. If you decide to do this make sure to pay extra attention to the most common trouble spots.
Common trouble spots:
1) Top of the door
2) Sunroof drain tubes (four of them)
3) Also check the black plug that sprays fluid to your rear glass, they tend to crack around the base, allowing water to trickle down and collect near the rear of the sunroof.
4) Finally check the drain channel along the back of the car (If you look at the top of the car there are two black run channels that stop when they touch your hatch, the drain channels counting under the hatch after the black channels end) sometimes they crack.
I took a tube of clear silicone and touched up the problem areas. I also checked the drain tubes but they were perfectly fine.
