Question for all you Honda junkies...
Hey,
The local autocross region has a new class called Open Street Prepared, similar to SM at SCCA. To build a car to this class, I wanted to know the lightest/best Civic/CRX platform for autocross and the best motor swap available under 1800cc.
This class is very open and allows a lot of modifications:
- wheels any size/diameter
- engine swaps allowed within the same manufacturer
- any dif/transmission allowed
- bodywork modifications are unlimited, provided the car is street legal
- interior modifications are unlimited except car must have door panels, a dashboard and driver/passenger seats (none of this has to be stock)
- chassis/frame/suspension mods are unrestricted, subject to basic safety parameters
Class restrictions:
- must be street legal
- must run DOT tires (same as Stock and SP in SCCA)
The class is divided into 3 displacement categories. I want to stay in the category under 1800 cc, with no forced induction.
My guess is that an EF CRX or Civic (DX?) would be the best starting point. Not only are they light, they have that terrific double wishbone front suspension setup. If this is the best platform, which is the best motor swap under 1800cc? The GSR motor (I'm told) is a few cc over. The Type R (B18c?) is 1797 cc which is perfect, plus comes with a nice LSD. But how easy is that swap? And would it provide the best power output?
Full rules are at:
http://www.caccautosport.org/c...k.pdf
Section 7.4.E (scroll to page 52, at least in my browser)
I am no Honda expert. Some thoughts from the guys who have BTDT would be appreciated.

i would take a 92-95 civic cx and swap in the B18c5. best engine under 1800 cc's. also with the EG civics it is a pretty simple swap that you could probably do on your own. this site might help ya out... http://www.edmunds.com/search/...rch.7.* - car weights
http://www.sportcompactcarweb....guide/ - click on the PDF... it has all the possible engine combinations for your civic/crx, and shows the difficuly of each swap.
hope that stuff helps ya out man, and good luck with whatever you choose to use.

oh for the car weights site, you have to click on specifications under the car features heading on the left hand side after you pick the car you wanna check out!
