I have an 88 CRX Si. With the stock D16A6. I am getting a D16Y8 tomorrow, complete with transmission.....

What transmission is on the Y8. Should I use my A6 transmission again on the Y8? or just bolt everything in?

 

keep your a6 tranny. the y8 trans will not bolt right up and work properly since its hydraulic and your car is cable

Hasport makes a cable to hydro adapter kit for b series swaps. However, you might be able to use the cable adapter and then fab your own transmission mount.

 

OK, I was wrong then I guess, I thought that they sold them for both D & B. Oh well. I think that you'd be better off using a cable trans.

I am pretty sure the bolt pattern that positions the mount on the trans is different than the one on the a6. This is the problem with hydro b series transmissions. The mount mounts differently to a hydro case than to a cable case.

 

I guess if the mount is too different to use the Y8 tranny I will just put my A6 tranny in, but the Y8 has less than half the miles....I think I would really like to use it....*sigh* I guess Ill just have to wait till tomorrow and see what works. Does anyone on here have the Y8 in their CRX? What transmission are you using?how did you get everything hooked up?

 

Do you have both transmissions? If so do a quick comparison of the mounting geometry and what not and that will tell you how different they are.

 

In reguards to the hydro vs cable trannys.... Does the 90 Si tranny bolt right up to the Sohc ZC?

I ask because, eversince i did the swap to the ZC engine, my tranny sounds different and seems to lack power at times.

 

I will have both transmissions tomorrow. I think I can rig something up....I am getting the Y8 engine, tranny, wiring harness, and ECU for 650....they have 50,000 miles..... Anyone have a Y8 in their CRX now? how do you like it? How is the Y8 tranny? what are the ratios of the A6 and Y8 if anyone has them? are they really different?
