Default HONDA CHALLENGE PRESS RELEASE

Honda Challenge Announces the Honda Challenge National presented by G-Sport

8/12/2004 – Lexington, Ohio. Honda Challenge is delighted to announce the Honda Challenge National presented by G-Sport, August 20-22nd at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington Ohio. The Honda Challenge National presented by G-Sport will be occurring in conjunction with the Triple Crown Tuner Challenge, a two-day car show featuring the hottest custom-tuned street cars competing in three classes - speed, style, and sound - for ultimate bragging rights. Honda Challenge is pleased that G-Sport will be joining the ranks of sponsors supporting the Honda-Acura exclusive series. Honda Challenge promises the most exciting racing of the weekend as over 40 competitors from as far as west as California, and as far east as New Jersey compete for the title of the “Best of the Best”.

The Honda Challenge Series, sanctioned by the National Auto Sport Association, NASA, consists of five different classes of Honda-Acura only products. The H1 class represents the fastest of the group while the H5 class represents the slowest but no-less exciting group. The Honda Challenge series is always a spectator favorite much due to its fender-to-fender racing and the very exciting Formula One / World Challenge – style standing starts. This weekend will be the first of its kind for Honda Challenge as the series brings together favorites from all NASA regions across the country. This event will be taped and edited for a future TV production. Effect Industries of Michigan will provide these services.

Where does G-Sport fit into this scene? A new name in the compact sport-tuning scene, G-Sport is the golden child of the Mr. Gasket Performance Group hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, a 40-year old company serving the automotive performance parts enthusiast. Another great brand from the same company that brings you very popular brands like Accel, Erson Cams, Hays, Hurst, Kool Blue, Mr. Gasket, and Mallory. G-Sport is Mr. Gasket Performance Group’s brand designed to service the sports compact enthusiast. G-Sport’s sponsorship of the Honda Challenge National presented by G-Sport shows their strong commitment to this automotive performance segment. G-Sport will be debuting their new G-Sport CIVIC sports compact project vehicle at this event. This vehicle is powered by their own, mass-produced, Honda-type, B18 crate engine. One of the first of its kind! G-Sport products may found on some of the Honda Challenge race cars. These products include starters, gauges, fuel rails, and G-sports latest release, the baffled oil pan.

G-Sport will be on location with their G-Rig and G-Sport support staff. G-Sport will also sponsor Saturday’s Honda Challenge dinner party in the G-Sport hospitality tent located near the Mid Ohio tower. G-Sport invites all NASA competitors, Triple Crown Participants, and spectators to stop by the G-Rig throughout the weekend. That's my old Civic that I sold to them. Can't wait to see what it looks like now.

Of course it was a stock Cx when I had it, but they told me the plans for it when I sold it to them. Pretty cool.

if you look for that crate engine on the Mr Gasket site, it puts out 270hp at the crank and is chock-full of parts that are all thouroughly illegal for the HC. and it's $9000 for the long block.

This is great news. You guys are doing a great job out there.
Thank you for your hard work. I'm sure a deal like this was no small feat. The attention and support will be really good for all of the drivers and it is very much appreciated.
Thank you G-Sport and everyone involved!

B series oil pan eh?

Yes it is a spectator event. Are you sure theres nothing on it? Look for Triple Crown Tuner Challenge, not NASA. $20/weekend, $15/day.

G-Sport will be debuting their new project CIVIC with the new BEAST B18 engine.

Do you think they will be running in the Honda Challenge event or do you think they will be there showing off their new product?

I heard that the BEAST puts out 220 hp. Who said 270?

The G-Sport CIVIC will be at Mid Ohio and will be on the track in HPDE. The vehicle will be there to show off the new product and to show its potential to magazine editors, writers, and the like. It is all good! As you said, it will be good to see it out on the track!

It's an excellent idea - a spec motor can only save money and even the playing field, allowing the drivers to focus more on their sKillz.

Ah yes, I'd love to see Cory running a spec B18 in the tank!
