"Meet and greet Mid-Ohio" for HC guys Aug. 20th
August 13th, 2004
Dear Honda Challenge Competitors-
If you have never been to Mid Ohio, the Oh/Ind. region is offering you an opportunity to “meet and greet Mid-Ohio.”
Our Midwest Honda Challenge co-director, Chris Stiffler is offering to get you up to speed by hosting a short meeting on Thursday August 19th at 5 p.m. at garage no. 20 in the lower paddock.
As some of you may know, the gates open at 2 pm on Thursday, thus allowing you the opportunity to get unloaded and get settled before the meeting begins.
In this meeting, Chris will use a map to show you where to go for tech, how to enter the track, where the showers are, plus other key items you’ll need to know in order to have a smooth weekend.
We hope this meeting will help you become more familiar with the property of Mid-Ohio and alleviate some of the hassles that can accompany a trip to a new track. A question and answer session will follow the “meet and greet.”
Chris is the 2003 H4 champion, former lap record holder, and has been attending Mid-Ohio since 1986 as a driver. His insight to this world class facility will definitely help you get up to speed, both on the track and off very quickly.
We look forward to seeing at the track. If you have any questions ahead of time feel free to email Lawrence Mansier: mansier@zoominternet.net or Chris Stiffler: rhm5@zoominternet.net

do we need to Tech if we have an annual ECHC tech? I assume we just fill out the "race tech" form and get our sticker.???

Just don't make Chris cry....
(Kidding)
Is there any chance of getting a course walk/drive either Thursday night or Friday AM before the 1st practice session?

If Friday is similar to many of the NASA events, there will be a course ride for the HPDE participants and any/all race participants who also wish to participate. Also, per the schedule posted at http://www.racenasa.com, track familiarization laps will be on Friday morning from 8:00 to 8:20. Hope this helps.

Can spectators/photographers attend this meeting? I want to know firsthand all the good shooting spots. I plan on shooting from a different location for every session.
Great! I really appreciate this effort. Now, I just need to manage to make it there a little earlier.

Johnny mac-
If you won a honda challenge championship, would you toot your horn, or just pick on people's posts from behind your keyboard? I was asked to write the letter, and then was told it would get posted, but it didn't, so I had to post it myself, it looks bad I know, but thanks for noticing.
Would you show up to a meeting to learn a track from a driver who was there for the first time or the track champion? Think about it before you criticize others, the self promotion is to provide credentials that prove I am worthy of holding this meeting to teach others...are you comming to this event?
Photogs, yes, I will cover the areas that you can shoot photos from, plus other great access areas for you to get a great vantage point.
As for the track walk or familiarization laps, yes there will be an opportunity to walk the track on Thursday evening or you can take your p.o.v. (privately owned vehicle) on course friday morning before the hpde sessions begin.
Jon Marhefka and I will be available through out the weekend should you need assistance. I will be in garage no. 20.

No, I probably would not post my championships in my signature, but I'm not saying that putting your accomplishments there is wrong either. Don't take being a self-promoter the wrong way, you could get better sponsorship opportunities, more press, and be generally better known than someone who says nothing about themselves. I know drivers with super talent and a plethora of accomplishments including multiple championships and track records who have very few sponsorships because they don't self-promote. There is a difference.
And, no I don't have to hide behind the computer. Besides, It's easier to comment on posts while seated at the computer.

Just to clarify the tech issues:
When you get to the track you will visit the registration building, which is before the entrance. There you will hand in your Race Tech form, and they will check your NASA membership. Mid Ohio will put a sticker on your membership which will then be used for your HOT PASS. NASA will give you an event handout, a wrist band for your run group, and any other information you need. You then go down to the paddock where Mid Ohio will help you find your designated paddock area (per the paddock map at http://www.racenasa.com ) Tech will be open all day Thursday and Friday. Every racer must take their gear and logbook to tech to be inspected and signed. If you do not have a logbook or annual done for your car, bring the car as well. Tech will be in front (track side) of the middle garages.
HPDE and TT cars will be teched on the grid prior to their first session of the day. They too will hand in their tech form at registration.
Hope that helps!

RoadHunter's Cafe (Sam's food cart) will be one of the only vendors there this weekend to serve food to us. They will be located in the infield near where the Show & Sound competitions will be held. They will be open for breakfast from 7am to 10:30am, and lunch will be from 10:30am until the end of the days events. They will take orders in advance, so if you want to place an order for breakfast or lunch on Saturday or Sunday, just go see them on Friday while they are setting up, give them your car number and what time you will want to pick it up, and it will be waiting on you at that time. Great food, cooked fresh every day, and much more reasonable than the Mid-Ohio concession stands. You can also see me in garage #20 all weekend and I can get an order to them for you to go pick up. Looking forward to seeing all of you there

No problem, I figured I'd take any chance I can get to tell racers about things in the infield since most of us never make it over there during the course of a weekend. That, and I figured I'd follow your lead and start self-promoting myself every chance I get

I will cover your food trailer location in the meet and greet on thursday evening, so everyone knows where to find the best chow in town.
I think delivering breakfast in the morning is the best idea yet, I will have a golf cart if you need it, seats 8, or 50 breakfasts if you stack em high...lol

Sounds good for Saturday and Sunday, no good for Friday as they will be setting up Friday morning. They may open for lunch on Friday, depending on how many people are there and wanting lunch.
