Default Header for a stock engine 90 accord LX

im searching ebay and see some for as low as 79 dollars i live in California and need to pass california smog specifications, what exactly should i look for in a header and what exactly does the header do other then give better exhaust flow and a few hp. Does a header change sound of my car at all? I already have a muffler and a Cold air intake and was just curious about this modification if it would be right for me . My car is a daily driver but i am into performance without changing my original motor

The header allows exhaust gases to travel out of the motor faster and will help performance, but I would not buy one that is 97$ that sounds really low and is probably cheaply made and will not last. Search in the sponsor forums and see if you can find anything.
