Alas, my 1994 Honda del Sol is now up for sale. Even though this car has been a big part of my life for the last couple years, I go to school in California and it’s just not practical money-wise to keep it anymore (probably getting a bike out there).

Anyway, in January ’02 the engine was converted into a B20/VTEC using a B20z block out of a 2000 CR-V and the existing B16a head. The work was done by Billy Roberts of AutoLab (very well known in this area) so you know it’s top notch. It also has a full custom stereo with a 10” sub behind the seats. The car was repainted last summer because my dad’s friend owns a shop and basically did it for free. The emblems were shaved, decals removed, and a lower rear lip was added (in addition to the existing OEM Civic front lip).

This car is a blast in autocross with the Koni Yellow shocks and the H&R Sports springs. I also added a custom harness bar to keep you in the seat. Or strip if you wish– it ran a 9.4 in the 1/8th last time I was there (don’t remember MPH).

The best thing about this car is that the top comes off. You can go topless all year ‘round because with the windows up and the heat on, there is a bubble of warmth inside the cabin.

The only problem we’ve basically ever had was after the engine conversion. Until the car is warmed up, there is a squeak that originates from somewhere near the engine. Five to ten minutes later, or if the car is already warm, it goes away. This has baffled us and we can’t seem to figure out what it is, but I’ve lived with it for two and a half years and it is causing no mechanical harm. I know you all love to tinker, so I pass its quirk on to you.

The car has 90,000 miles on the head and body, but remember, only ~25,000 on the block. A/C blows cold, oil changed with Mobil 1 synthetic every 3k miles, power steering, great sound, new paint, more torque than your average Honda… I don’t really want to sell this car but it’s time. I’m asking $8200 to a good home.
