when i talk to the guy on the phone he tells me there is nothing wrong with the car other than a few scratches on the bumper a missing turnin light in the front and the center console inside because the car got broken into in new york..? his story is that his brother bought the car about a year ago and moved to new york soo he drove it back here to FL and told his brother to sell it because he doesnt need it there and its gonna get broken into doesnt convince me !? hes not a dealer according to him but his garage is full of tools and stuff to clean the car and he had a bunch of floor jacks lamps everything.. exept he was like 40 and all he had was a van one of those toyota ones .. now i dont think this guy would have all these tools for a simple VAN .... SO IMO HE WAS DEFETNETLY A DEALER .... o yeh back to my story i get ther and i say A FEW SCRATCHES>?!?!??! half of the back bumper was misssing paint it was like with almost no paint at allllll!!!! so i take the car for a drive and well mechanically i couldnt seem to find anything wrong ... soo i ask him what is ur lowest price he said i already told you 4000 im like but u said a few scratches not the whole car needs to b painted .. b/c the front had like the same thing the paint was comming off ... but he didnt want to negotiate soo i said ok well thank you sorry for taking your time

 

either you can pass this opportunity and wait. or you can jump on it, if it is mechanically sound, meaning the compression is good, then i would go for it.
but i would run a carfax and i would match all the numbers.
tell him theres a check waiting for him in the amount of $3800.

 

thanks for your opinion .. but i told him ill give 3500 cash right now and hes like no it makes no difference to me cash no cash i want 4000 .. and i was like is there any other deal u would like and he said 4gs

The guy sounds like any idiot to me, it's really up to you. Like King_J said what matters is that it's mechanically sound, you could always get it resprayed down the road. Just check and make sure the title is clean.

 

kinda funny i hear about these deals up here too. Friend or brother came up from Florida and drove the car and doesn't need it anymore so they try to sell it for real cheap. HOld off on that one.

Since he is so firm on the price I would just wait him out. See if the car is still there in a month or so. Honestly if you hold out long enough you can find a gsr in your budget.....good luck keeping it though

 

You know I hate when people say i'll give you x amount of dollars cash when they lowball and dont have it. Of course your going to have cash, what else are you going to pay the guy in, peanuts??

The whole point of lowballing someone and saying I'll give you x amount of dollars CASH is to HAVE THE CASH WITH YOU!!!!!!!!! The saying money talks, ever heard of it. The whole point is to show up with 3800 cash in fist and hope that when the guy sees it he takes it, if not bring the whole 4g's but drive away first after he rejects the initial 3700-3800. I sold cars briefly and rule number 1 was:

You'll never get if you dont ask

 

Anybody that drives to NY from FL probably needs $$$, they don't just discard the car.
