Default Simple Metal Fabrication Help

need to design an N1 style muffler for the snow blower project (see link in my sig)........we were thinking of using steel juice cans about 1.5" in diameter, and then using steel wool as a sound deadening device.......neither me or my buddy working on this has a welder, but both of us were thinking about picking up a tac welder (just good to have one anyways, we like to **** around with metal alot)........but we have a number of other freinds who can weld.

would it pe possible to use a simple tack welder, and would it be sturdy enough, and would it be possible to make clean seals where the metals meet???

any tips/ideas/n00b bashings is (are) welcome

go to a motorcycle shop and get silencer packing (its cheap fiberglass stuff) it will work better than steel wool.. you need an inner tube with holes or something drilled down the length of it. i dont think a spot welder would work on a joint though

thanks guys, that packing stuff sounds better......the steel wool will eventually melt away most likely anyways.......in the "worse" case scenario, we'll just reweld the old muffler onto the old manifold......
