Someone help me out. I was told that the 4.785 final drive gear from the JDM ITR will not work in the cable trannys. Although i have also heard that the USDM del sol vtec tranny gears ARE compatible with the cable trannys. Are these statements true. and if so are all the hydro tranny gears compatible with the cables. and also if this is true why will the ITR final drive not work. Thanks.

 

I asked this querstion at a local performance shop and they said that the gear casing on cable trannies are totaly different so it will NOT work .

 

True they are different but, i could not tell the difference from a US GSR gear and that of a 90 US LS gear. Besides the obvious tooth count wants the difference. and I now the all the cable gears are compatible. Some people are us LS 5th gears for better highway driving and i have not heard any complaints. Thanks for the reply. Does anyone else have any idea. This would save all of us with JDM cable trannys a lot of money if we could use, say 99 si, type R or even del sol vtec gears, for the simple fact that they can be special ordered from the dealers. Instead of simply replacing the tranny everytime we grind a syncro. Help.
