my friend, who owns a 98 prelude, and i were sitting in another friends kitchen late one night. it was probobly about 1:30 AM. his alarm started to go off, which is no big thing bc it can go off if a gust of wind hits it. anyways, we walk out the front door and we're kinda just standing there staring at the car (we weren't exactly in the right state of mind for something like this to be happening). his car was running! WTF? how is his car running and the alarm going off, he has the keys. so the first thing we thought was, **** someone broke in, tore out the ignition and hot-wired it. and ran when they realised they were out of time and we were opening the front door. when we got to the car and everything looked perfectly normal. but the car was on. he got in and the key position was on OFF. he went ahead and put the key in and put it in the ON position and then back to the OFF position...but the car was still on. so he reverses out of the driveway and goes down the street and back. then parks it, then turns it to OFF and the car turned off. we stood there wondering what would have happened, there were no signs of a break in that we could see at all, so we went inside. the next day we took a closer look and there were a couple of very very small scratches inside the door jamb that he said weren't there before, evidence of a coat-hanger style break in. but how could they have gotten the car started? if someone broke into his car they definitely knew what they were doing. does anyone have any idea of what could have happened?

 

My guess... he has a remote starter. Hit the button accidentally in his pocket. Then maybe hit the panic button.

 

forgot to mention that, no remote start, never had one

 

uhhhhhhh Does that car talk to him? That's fucked then. Were the doors still locked?

 

my guess is if he would have hit the brake with the key out the car would have shut off just like if it had a remote car starter?? that is my only guess that would explain why it would shut right off when he drove it for a second cause he had to hit the brakes to stop and then turning the key shuts it off..

who knows..

if the theif had it started why not peace out with it?

exactly. i don't know. we arent even sure that it was a thief

the doors were unlocked when we got to the car. but my friend said he was hittin all kinds of buttons tryin to get the alarm ot turn off.. so its irrelevant

 

crazy... i know this kid who can start his car, and then just take out the key and it stays on....
