To be fair, the more I'm learning the more I realize that this was David Richard's fault, not Button's. I would also be pissed if somebody owed me $3 million and wouldn't pay....

If that's real and I were Jenson Button, I would take great joy into stuffing the car into the guardrail. When the mechanics put the car back together, I'd do it again.

Yeah, that is the part that I was talking about. This is Richard's fault. He offered the bonus, then didn't want to pay it when the team actually did well. There was an earlier rumor that he promised everybody on the team a certain amount of money per point, and now doesn't have the money to uphold that.

I love the results that the team has had since he joined, but the guy is a dick.

im shocked that it would be like this. i would have thought BAR would be getting boat loads more money this season and any extra performance bonus would not have been an issue. maybe something to do with not allowing midseason sponsorships or something. i could understand not having the money tho, if youre a struggling team that suddenly does top 3 in points as in the case of BAR, but it certainly doesnt look good if you dont pay up as promised.

Richards could pay it out of his pocket easily if he wanted to stand behind his words. He just doesn't *want* to. BAR will see the extra sponsorship money in 2005, but in 2004 not much has really changed except for adding Ray-Ban.

What an idiot. If DR really was screwing over JB like this and as a result JB decided that he needed to find his way out of the organization I can't blame him that much. It was still sort of a cowardly way out of his contract and he still could have handled it better. Just because one party is being less than honorable doesn't mean you should destroy your honor as well.

If I were the Honda execs I'd be very angry with him and I'd force him to publicly recant all of this stupid propaganda he's been spouting. I know DR was trying to make a big stink of things but if he has not been taking care of things on his side it makes him look like a loud-mouthed fool. If it weren't for BAR's dramatic progress this year I'd say he deserves to be sacked over this.

Why is it cowardly? According to the latest report, Jenson was getting ripped off all season - yet he kept pushing, and kept scoring points for the team. He did a sterling job of not airing private matter in the public domain.

Button's been chastised and slandered by the press for (what's been seen as) wiggling out of a contract and trying to dick over the team - while the truth has been the exact opposite; Button , in my opinion, is the honorable party in this situation. If you were getting screwed out of 3 million , you'd be looking around for other opportunites as well. Wouldn't you?

BAR/Richard will get a talking to (from the Honda execs) - I would imagine. Honda's loose contractual 'binding' to BAR also leaves them the option of dumping BAR at any given time - and with Sato fading from the picture in '05, I don't forsee the BAR team to be under Honda power much longer.

Short of buying out an entire team (like Jordan or Jaguar), no other team would give Honda so much say in the chassis development as BAR. Honda does a lot more than just build the engine, and that is at Honda's request. I don't see them going anywhere, especially with Geoff Willis' chassis doing so well.

The reason I think it is cowardly is because of the way he refused to return phone calls and the way his management team sent a fax rather than at least giving a phone call. Again if DR was in fact screwing him over then Jenson didn't really owe them the courtesy but as a matter of honor I'd say he did. At the very least for the sake of all of the people in the organization who worked so hard for him.

What makes you think Sato will be out of the picture after 05?

As for Honda starting an all factory effort, I don't see why they would given the progress of the BAR Honda duo this year. Really if anything they should've gone with the Jordan team instead of BAR a few years ago based on results.
