b16a...high idle on cold startup!
i've searched, but found little info on what i was looking for.
stock b16a II on 93 civic 4dr
on a cold startup, my rpm revs all the way to 2k rpm and it'll take about 5-8 minutes to get down to normal rpm (600-800). i have one CEL code 23 (knock sensor). i cold startup my friend's stock b16a and it was 1.7k rpm and takes lesser time to get down to normal rpm. it's also quieter and smooth like a normal car should be.
my concern is would the knock sensor be causing this? is this even normal?
thanks.

no your ks wont cause that. the car is saposed to idle up to 2k ish on a cold start up maybe his tach is off a little bit?, that causes the engine to warm up quicker. try taking off you iacv and cleaning it out and see if that helps any

+1 and also check for your vacume leak

It is suposed to idle about that high, mine does the same thing. If it's really cold where you are it's a good thing. Its about 18 degrees here and it'll idle @ about 2000 for a few minutes. KS has nothing to do with this.
How cold was it?
I know it was 20 degrees here in NJ when i started my car (b18c5). Ussaly twice a week cause i dont drive it in the winter and it Started up and was damn near 2grand.
Which falls down to a thousand rpm within a few minutes. Id get the knock sensor fixed ASAP though.

But mine s just going up like every week it used to idle at like 1500 or something and now its at 3000 so i know thats not normal ive cleaned the IACV, changed the TPS and cleaned and adjusted the FIVS or whatever its called and nothing anyone have anything else?????And what happens if i dont get a knock sensor????

I had a similar problem on the z6, it would go high and sit for a long time. I cleaned the fitv and it solved that. Heres a link on how to do it, https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1564019 . *edit* Another reason i suggest this is b/c, the fitv controls idle when cold and the iacv takes over when at operating temp.
i have a b16a SiR II and its prett cold here also in michigan. mine starts up and idles at around 2 grand also. so im sure thats fine with being so cold. itll warm up to operating temp then once i start driving and it cools itself right down to the cold mark again. i dont get that. dunno if its jsut so cold its doin that or what. i also have a slight idle surge. ive cleaned the iacv also.
When its cold out, my car idles at about 2000-2300 rpm and then usually works its way down within minutes. I don't think your idle is so far off to where its a problem in your case. Just do what everyone else is saying and clean your IACV, and I think everything will be fine
nice work on the thread jack.
you've got more of a problem then normal! whens the last time you had a tune up? i'd get right on that IMO

so you adjusted something you weren't even sure of the name?
probably best to take it in to a shop in that case... again, just IMO.

find what controlls your cold start
disconnect it
and see how sweet it is when you start your car cold without it.
then you will love that 2 grand

ive got a 94' Dx stock and im in Wisconsin and when its cold it idle at 3k when i first start it and once its warm i idle at 1500rpm's. Like alot of people said before me the engine is cold therefore it will idle high to try and warm up faster, end of story.
