Side Moldings, yey or ney?
Im getting ready to repaint my 1990 hatch, and I was wondering if I should plan on putting the side moldings back on or fill the holes and rock no side moldings when I repaint? If anybody has pics of a EF with no side moldings please post.
its weird i went through the same thing as he a year ago and it was the hardest decision for me, but after kind of ruining my moldings when i did the prep work i figured mise well cover em up and also i figured since most newer cars like integras have a one color look i thought it would make my car look newer (crx) and so i got it painted and its cool cause its a dark blue color same as a newer volkswagen color, but after a year i like it a lot but for some reason i see other crx's with the stock look and i somehow miss it and almost want to convert it to black moldings again, but it would be too much work so it would'nt make sense.
but only reason i had it painted was it was in a wreck and had new body panels which were unpainted and the car needed to be color matched, so if it were up to me now i would really just want a stock looking crx or hatch.
when i was tryin to decide i even put the car in photoshop and compared how it would look with a dark gray color w/out moldings, a dark gray w/moldings, dark blue w/out or with etc... just to help decide, but i guess thats not good enough cause now i miss the moldings. (and btw, i did'nt mention above that i meant i have the car one color, but the moldings are painted over, but not removed)

Keep them and have them paint patched with your car
OR
Remove them and completely shave them like me
Dont do any of that **** that most people with eg's have and just yank them off and leave the hole there, not cool to me anyways

yea i was going to do that too. cuz my side moldings were hurt and really weird. some would be smooth and some not.... but i also looked at painted s/m's and didnt like it. so wat im doin is jus painting the side moldings black and slap a good clean clear coat and it looks pretty new. at the same time with the stock look.!!!ill post when i can hands on a camera. wat you guys think?
I didnt try to shave them all the way because its really tricky to get them to actually not come out all wavy ... people always say"oh i do it myself and it looks good" and yeah it may in primer but once you get it painted 9 times out of 10 you can see waves down the side. I chose to just shave the holes and later decided to have the modlings painted and just reopend the holes.

thats what i think too, i personally like when the 90-91 mouldings are painted, but with the 88-89 its hits or miss either i like em or i hate em.

also it kind of matters what color your painting the car, cause to me some colors look good with a black molding to contrast the color, or some look good with just one solid color all matching moldings and car, or some just look good either way, just matters on your taste i guess, but paint shops usually don't recommend painting over the moldings cause it does'nt stick and last as long.
please stick with the black moldings for rice sake.
j.p.
you can get away with painting the moldings on a crx or even shaving them but IMO its just nasty on the civics. cosmetically, it isn't worth shaving them on a civic.
like what schwanginpt said, you need something to break up the space.
but if you like the look of what thatricerdaniel posted then go for it
some people dig that look.
