Default 93 Accord LX Transmission Problem

We have a 93 Accord LX (2 dr) automatic. The transmission seems to stick in first gear - mostly when cold but still even warmed up. Any idea on what could be the cause? Seems pretty good other wise.

the first move is to definately check your tranny fluid..if you do see that's it low then you also need to find the leak...good luck

I have had a similar problem with my 92 Accord EX coupe, automatic. If it's not the ATF, what else do you think it could be? Thanks for any advice.

You could always try a transmission flush. That helped my 94 accord LX.

I work at honda and i have seen this before. If u have over 120,000 miles on your car theres nothin u can do. Its just goin out on you so u have to rebuild it or get a trans for it or sell ur car while its still moving.

I have 251,000 on my Accord and the auto tranny still shifts fine....

The 4th generation automatic trans is bullet proof. I've replaced a few, but basically, 300K miles usually isn't a problem. We sure as hell didn't have several sitting out back because of transmission problems.

'91 Accord here, 247,400 miles so far on the original automatic tranny.

When i bought my car the transmission would get stuck in 2nd gear every now and then. My dad thought the tranny was trash but a friend of ours (honda technician) said it was whatever computer controlled the shifting (I'm guessing the TCM?) Ever since I've never had any problems with my transmission.

Change the fluid and add a can of lube guard for imports. When it is colder you want to left the car run for a few mins before you put it into gear.

There is something you can do to help solve the gear sticking problems....

Take the 2 shift solenoids off of the front of the transmission and clean them and the screens. Reinstall to trans and you should be good to go.

That trans is 100% electronic and when the car is cold, it will hold the gears longer to help th engine warm up.

If the trans has been properly maintained it should easily outlast the rest of the car (ie the car will turn to a rust pile before the engine or trans quits in that car). There is a dealer in my area that has seen quite a few 5th gen accords with 500K plus on original engine and trans and they are still being serviced.

The same cannot be said for the 6th gen transmissions as very few of them will make it past 200K and quite a few of them don't even make it to 100K
