Default Oil burning on my integra - i cant seem to figure it out! :(

My gsr when starting up has white smoke puffying out of the exhaust.. but after the car warms up everything seems ok.. no more smoke. The car is not driven hard .. but rather daily driven to work and back.. the car burns roughly 1/2 to 3/4 quart per week of oil... why is this happening.. i am really beginning to get frustrated as i can not determine the cause of this.

info:

-Good compression all the way across
-Leak down test done everything was good
-recently replaced valves (thought it was the valves that caused the oil burning)
-car only has 74xxx miles
-black stuff gets all over the back bumper from the exhaust

can anyone help me out with my situation.. hopefully help me pinpoint the problem before i just swap in a complete motor.

ps: could it be the piston rings? i thougt i wasnt becasue the car was showing good compression and leak down #s

?????

Valve guides or seals Me thinks...

Do a leakdown test. Its the only way to be sure. Could be valve seals, pistonrings... Only way to be sure.

I always hear people talking about these tests....

Where would you reccomend going to get one of these done and how much does it usually run?

he already did a leak down test idiot
yu do the test your self.. is not hard to do at all
i really dont know.. if your compression is good, than your rings should be good.. and if your leak down test was good, then your valve seals should be good, so im not sure man

Use thicker oil. I think its 10-40w or something. That's what i did b/c i had the exact same problem. Haven't had it since and oil settings are fine.

It sounds very like valve stem seals...as when the car lies up over night oil leaks down through them and burns off once you start it up again in the morning. If the oil rings were done you'd be blowing plumes of smoke at high revs......

I was under the assumption that a leak down test only checks the condition of the compression rings not the oil control rings (which would cause oil consumption). If this is not the case, please somebody set me straight.

so the motor can have good compression, good leak down, but have a bad oil ring that can cause all this oil burning..

seems like i've found my problem?
wats next.. rebuild?

I don't want to mislead you. I don't know and that is why I asked the question.

EDIT: White smoke on start up doesn't sound like oil burnoff though. If it is buring oil at start up, then most likely it is the valve seals or maybe the guides.

If it only does it right after startup, it's your valve seals...while your car sits, oil drips down through the valve seals and into the combustion chamber...when you start it up, poof, it burns off...

If it were the rings, it'd do it under acceleration...
