few scratches on the surface of my block....will I be ok? can I file block?
I was scraping the old gasket off my block today when i noticed that it would get caught on a few scratches or small raised sections. Has anyone heard of filing these rough sections down with some fine grit sandpaper attached to a flat piece of wood? Any help or experience would be appreciated.
by the way....I just put this motor in, I really don't feel like removing it to get it milled a few .001. Both the surface of the head and the surface of the block are within spec and are not warped.
thanks guys

If it's barely deep enough to feel, then just hose the headgasket in 2-3 coats of copper seal before installation.
NEVER sandpaper a block. Warp it, and you're f'd until you pull it to be milled.

Where are the scratches? On what part?
Like SiR Kid said, never file down a surface. Depending on the location, minor scratches do not pose a threat to the sealing ability of a gasket. So either you coat your gasket, or fill in the scratches.
